mk2 polo 1.3 engine troubles and tips

hey guys i've got a mk2 polo 1.3 formel e and i've got a little problem i striped down the pooburg carb cause well it needed a good clean and little refurb so after i put the carb back on the car run sweat for about 30 mins then its developed a misfire now i've replaced the leads cleaned the plugs changed the rotor arm now i've know i've got to get the coil pack and dizzy cap but would they make much difference ? could it be anything else ?

The clue may well be in the fact that you have had the carburettor off, especially if this problem wasn't there before.

I would suggest that, if you didn't renew the carb mounting, you take the carb off again and check/renew that mount.

Air leak?

All the vacc hoses fitted correctly, none perished?

Does yours have the stop/start?

The ignition amps do tend to go bad as do the hall senders.

Mk2s have a coil (round) not a coil round (square).

it does have the stop start but I'm confused what that would have to do with it ?

The clue may well be in the fact that you have had the carburettor off, especially if this problem wasn't there before.

the problem was there before but it wasn't as comon as it is now does that make sense ?

Misfire could be spark plug leads arcing to engine earth.

Look under the bonnet with it idling at night.

Carb mount gasket air leak can be detected by spraying stuff around where you think the leak is,

Depends what you spray near the leak.

Carb cleaner will reduce revs.

Easystart (ether) will increase revs.

Shaving foam applied when engine cold will bubble where sucked in.

well i've got carb cleaner and i'll start her up tonight after work and look for the arcing
