What did you do with sills inside when you welded them up? I've got a fair bit of panelwork to do on mine, and am worried about treating behind the repair, i.e will they rust behind the weld and what did you do about it?

I put loads of weld through primer on, which keeps it protected. And then make sure everywhere had a good coating of cavity wax.

How did you apply the cavity wax to the inside of the sills?

  • Author

On the sills them selves there are drain holes which can be used. So with that and full coating of primer I hope it will be ok :)

Hi mark :)

Blast from the past here.

i have a late mk2 polo that I'm converting to a gt at the moment for the polo show.

i need to know if i can use the same tank and what not.

do i just have to replace normal fuel lines and mec pump with the gt lines and an exturnal fuel pump?

will i need a new whatever that is called in the pick above going in to the tank?

cheers

Alan

Ps: your polo = lush :D

In a late Mk2 you should be ok to use the same tank. I did.

Yes you will need this, its call a fuel lift pump/fuel sender(for petrol gauge). On a mk2 the fuel is drawn from an outlet at the bottom of the tank (there is an inlet to for the fuel return). So you need to block or loop together these old inlets and outlets and then fit the lift pump from a mk2f and run the fuel pipes up to the top of the tank.

Yes replace the Normal lines with the GT ones and all the gt fuel pump stuff and fit the fuel pump wiring loom from the GT so you can get power to the 2 pumps.

Managed to run a 16.21 (all of them where low 16's) which I didn't think was too bad (racing excuses) with a strong headwind, and boot full of stuff.

Hahahahahaha and as soon as I said it was windy in the morn you moaned at me for having excuses ready ;)

That last pic is sick!

That last pic is sick!

Where did you think I got it from! :-D

what I did find interesting was the run that I thought would be my slowest was my quickest. Quite a bit of wheel spin off the line and loads of wheel spin when I put it into 2nd.

Would di it again just to get into the 15's. Will remove the contents of my boot and bowls first though! Plus put the rear seats down flat for extra weight saving!

Yeah it's so weird. You'll feel as though you've done a rubbish run and it's quickest haha.

Yeah surprised at your times, I know mk2's are lighter but I guess you had full interior etc, Jamie ran 15.7 in his carb'd AFH in a mk3 but had no interior like.

I might be going back to an RWYB soon, will let you know how much we can take off for wind haha

  • 1 month later...

This felt nice on track, pretty well balanced :)

my fuel pump is attatched underneath my carbs lol shame the 1st one is shagged. 2nd looks like a biggun

I've always liked them and I think they would really suit the car!

Down side is that they didn't come with center caps

IMAG0701.jpg

But they look grand!

So I begin to fudge some caps together.. when I wonderd..

IMAG0706-1.jpg

..yes that is a cap to a spray can!

so after a trip to halfords..

IMAG0709.jpg

with added reinforcement so it won't loose its shape

IMAG0710.jpg

So then off to Polo Show.. and a trip on the rollers

DSC01739.jpg

made 129bhp and 116 lbs ft of torque at the fly. I think they were reading high a bit as it was a baking hot day.

changed the spacers for the show and shine

IMAG0719.jpg

and then it got dark

IMAG0721.jpg

In the show and shine..
