have you primed and painted the gbox before fitting the LSD would it not have made more sense to fit it first or is it going in a different box.

how much did the exhaust valves set you back and where from as I'm not sure whether to replace mine yet or not, would be nice to but funds are tight

The box had all of the internals removed as it maked it easier to paint/manage.

The valves were about 7 pounds each I think from euro car parts. Didn't shop around so not sure if that's a good price or not.

The diff is now fully rebuilt and the selector seal was also replaced.

The engine had a test build and all looks ok. Still need to make a decision on if I should use the AFH pistons or not.

thats good then looked like you had just painted it and then were going to crack it apart to fit the diff, i had to split a gearbox after painting it but only because a bearing went after, what a pain in the ass and mess it made.

thats not too bad per valve really and was that before or after discount

il check condition of all my head parts this weekend when i start to rebuild mine

How come you bought a new set of diff bolts? At the price they are for a set I'd have used the originals from the ATV box with some oil proof thread lock. The nuts have cerated bases anyhow to lock them into to plate washers.

That was just list price as there was a sale on. :)

Yeah, tell me about it. For some stupid reason I got it into my head that bolts where not used but rivets. Why I don't know. So at least I have the piece of mind to know that all the bolts and nuts are new and not worn - I'm grasping there!!

Few updates. Just come back from 2 weeks of this over in the states

decided the day after that I needed a rest. So a 300mile 6 hour round trip would be perfect!

Leaving Derby first point of call was TL Darby Volkswagen Buxton to pick up some engine parts

So engine parts in hand next stop Aldon Automotive in Stourbridge to drop them off

and the engine in question

Nearly done and as always a great bunch of people to talk to.

Then off to Steven Brear Gearboxes in Leeds.

again a really good bunch a guys who rebuild my ATV box and fitted the LSD.

So its actually getting closer than ever to get the engine and bits together. only taken me nearly 18months!

Full length cambelt cover. This came from a Seat

The finished gearbox and a replaced Polo G40 diff!

Also recieved my uprated healight wiring look from James together with some uprated bulbs from Euro Car Parts

A few weeks ago I stumbled upon a Retro Car Magazine meet at Rockingham.

And they were doing a 30min track time over the lunch period. So I thought it would be rude not too.

At the end of the session we had a track parade which was good fun!

Also Huyi is in this months Retro Car!

Also took her out on a night drive where we ended up in York. Haven't done one for ages and it was nice to head out with the setting sun.

Next was Stanford Hall. I really love this show so I wanted to make sure she was all nice and clean. So one epic cleaning session was needed

She came out rather well

Also the engine change has started. The 1.4 has been removed!! so now is the long task of getting all the bits nice and tidy. I'm also looking to to a bit of a suspension refresh as well

Need to do something with the exhaust manifold. Easy option is to re-wrap it, but I am looking about getting it ceramic coated. So will decide over the next week.

Worked on her more today. Mainly getting all the bits sprayed up and painted. But as it was nice weather decided to have a BBQ and sit outside. :)

Bit of an update..

Started taking the engine out. Will be sad to see this engine go. As its a been a brilliant engine however it is now up for sale!

Also I wanted to get the engine bay up to the standard that I would like so started to clean up parts.

Picked up some new toys

Also had a trip down to PPP to pick up a subframe

I mocked up the air filter for the carbs. This isn't ideal as the mount point is actually recessed a bit. So if had to mount them right at the top of the backing plate.

The drill came in really useful as I basically used it to chain drill them out

And test fitted them. Its pretty good that they had to be fitted like this as it gives more under bonnet clearance

Picked up some leads from Magnecor

Used a birthday gift voucher from MaxRPM to purchase some track control arms with eccentric rose joint

Picked her up from Southam Mini & Metro Centre yesterday after they had done the initial tune. Done about 200 miles so far just another 300 odd to run her in properly and then back for the final tune up! :)

Few bits that I need to do. Gear linkage needs adjusting and I need to sort something with the exhaust manifold so it stops vibrating on the arb! :)

Cheers.. Yeah the Southam guys are really good so it needs to go back in a few hundred miles time for the final tune. Their yeard and workshops are so cool. Could spend a while up their just looking around! :)

Yeah but then the front end goes all wobbly :-D I have thought about it.. maybe when I have some cash to spend on some fully adjustable suspension.

Currently the car is away at JR Fabrications having a custom exhaust manifold being built. As it was getting so annoying vibrating on the ARB. Also I didn't think the other one was too great.

Can't wait to see it all built up!! :)
