My 90spec Jetta

Featured Replies

HI guys, Thought Id start a thread from my Mk2 Jetta, been as its starting to change now :)

So, bought it back in November, my dad found it on ebay and I quite liked it. My Dad needed something to go to work in because he was between yanks and I fancied something else to potter about with, so we decided to go halves on it, although I ended up paying the lot

Drove back from the New Forest with no issues.

Its a 1990 1.3 CL

Here it is as I bought it, minus the veedub stick and tennis ball

Got bought some new number plates for Christmas, as I was opening them I thought my Dad had bought me a Private Reg. but no, just some new ones

And thats how it sayed untill last month... it wasnt being used so work began

There was pretty bad Laquer peel on both passenger doors so first I tackled this

The original plan when I bought it was to buy a Mk3 gti 8v and wide track it ect.. but now I'm thinking to stay small block, maybe a polo gt engine? mm dunno!

Cheers Guys, cant wait to get my wheels on, and sucks waiting another week to tax it :-(

Cheers bud, and Its got alot of tuck in the front

They're only temporary!

Like this a lot

Sweet. what were you thinking of in terms of power?

Drop a VR in it ;)

Cheers guys!

Had thought of that, but I'm liking the idea of 1.4/1.6 16v now!

There was a mk3 vr6 on eBay last week, ended with no bids at 200 quid! Was super tempted!

vr is a cheap and easy way for nearly 200 bhp

don't forget the noise of a vr ;)

You are right but... I still fancy small block. I want the car to usable and decentish on fuel

abf or kr it haha

Mmmmm... I don't know aha, whatever cheap donor car I find

AFT it.

Right, would an early gti 1.8 16v be an easy enough swap in my late car?

Yeah, 90 spec one would be easier as it will be ce2 electrics

Yeah, 90 spec one would be easier as it will be ce2 electrics

Right, so buying a pre 90spec donor car isnt a great idea? Not plug and play like the mk3, but surley it wouldnt be to complicated to wiring it into my elecs

It is still really doable, just easier if its 90 spec haha

Right, how much would you guys pay for a donor? Found a mk2 16v and the bottom line is 300quid, which if it was local, I'd snap it up... It's in Leeds.. So the car will end up costing me around 450 quid, reasonable?

Looking good and look forward too it sitting on the cookie cutters too

£450 for a donor seems a little high to me, but, best way to look at it is, what money can you make back from selling other parts on the 16v and then scrapping or selling the shell on? Then look at how much the engine would owe you (if anything) and see if you're happy with paying that for it

Hi, thanks mate :)

And yeah that is the best way to look at it. I'd use all the breaks ect, so all the running gear would go onto mine. Waiting for interior pics ect, I imagin a good interior is worth a few bob, I'd get around 130 quid scrap for the sell and my running gear I'd imagin.

Still tempted though! I suppose a kr would cost you 150-200 quid?

Max
