Hey all,

I've decided to do the LED clocks conversion myself and for a mate. I do electronics at college, and after reading the guide on the forum, thought this should be a piece of cake that involves a soldering iron. And also I can add some pics for the guide. So off i went, got the order from Ultraleds. And 2 hours getting the clocks out of the car through some tight struggles. Its all set to go :-D

Took the glass panel out. And with brutal force the bastard needles came off!

So we have this...

Then 3 screws for the surround to come off...

Clip the two pieces aside to reveal the circuit board...and ATTACK WITH A SOLDERING IRON :-D

Desolder all the little fuckers out of the circuit board...and resolder back on the NEW LEDs.

CHECK all the connections with a multimeter. If all good, reassemble all and put it back into the car.

And then at NIGHT you have the MONEY SHOT...

@ Chrispy: Yeah defo recommend it mate. Once the clocks are off it takes about an hour to desolder and resolder back in the new LEDS. And they are a pain in the arse cus its TINY and 22 of them! So fair amount of patience is needed lol

Then you have to test it by pluggin it back in. Hope the airbag light doesnt come on. It shouldnt and didnt on mine

How do you get the lil clock and milage thing red? Mine are currently green!

eariler style clocks are front light, they got bulbs shining onto the dials insted of back lit leds.

so its a differnt process but alot easier to do. Think there was a thread on uk polos about it.

red needles are harder to do cos the blue light lighting up the rear dials also lights the needles, so the red needles would be lit with blue light not come out a proper red, unless u find a way of seperating the needles light source from the dials

Exactly! Thats the reason i unsoldered all the red LEDs underneath the needles i put in at first cus it blended with the blue and looked purple lol

Only thing i hate about the later dials is the rev meter thing is on the left hand side...for some reason it bugs me when cars have it on the left lol
