I dont drive like a nob or thrash my car....bt i was coming back from scarboro today, and i may well have been following my mates mk4 astra and trying to keep up as i entered a roundabout i knew i was going too fast, but somehow it didnt lose grip even though it must have been on the edge and i was just curious as to wether they oversteer or understeer, just for future reference of course.....

understear i would guess as its FWD or you could have abit of lift off oversteer eitherway dont drive like a nob!

Depends what you are doing at the time. Being front wheel drive they will tend to under steer under power. A rear wheel drive car normally over steers under power...but there are too many exceptions that prove these rules.

All cars can over steer when steering and braking/lifting off...but the same actions might induce under steer as well. Its all to do with managing the grip and weight transfer without over whelming an individual tyre....best left to playing on the track or skid pan.

6N's are very happy to understeer

there a roundabout near my uni and has a really slippy section even in the dry you hit not even fast for the roundabout and you start over/under steering depending where u started on the round about . but in the wet its leathal see loads of people hit the curb .

i want to go on a track to learn the cars limits and to learn how to drive better i.e how to make the car corner better

6n are pretty heavy cars and at standard ride height (which I'm guessing yours is) they are very willing to understeer. I never really gave my car any shit at standard height as i was still getting used to it at that point but the back end always felt pretty stable (compared to the Mk3 anyway)

Id say 99% of the time it will understeer and you'd have to drive it like a complete tool to get it to oversteer!

Although with my car on the deck now I have once had the backend come out on me on a roundabout, was only doing 15-20mph but just lifted off at the wrong point (was a wet greasy road too) and the back end just came out a tad.

I have a decent level of oversteer with my current setup. Its not allways ideal but easily controllable.

Most polo's will understear .

You should be able to tell yourself how your car is handling anyway mate to be honest .

Although power steering dosnt help you feel how the car is reacting with the road surface .

i still cant understand why you would want to know this, but as people have said understeer is bad, especially as mine is a diesel so is UBER heavy lol.... and having digs at people in there threads about their car that has just been burnt out is uncalled for!

Na mate, did that before, helps to have decent front tyres

I took my mums 6N for a swim about 2 weeks after passing my driving test (in '99) due to oversteer so they will go sideways if you're over-exuberant with them... and then backwards... and then roll into a river!

Progressive understeer is better for pillocks that drive to fast on the road than snappy lift off oversteer.

That's why i have stiff front and softish rear suspension

I never drove it anywhere near hard with the coilies and 175/50s on, but it didnt really inspire to drive it quickly!

Fuck it, i drive like a nob sometimes when the mood takes me and i absolutely love it, i bet the majority of you lot do to sometimes but because your under the cover of your keyboard and monitor your going to slate anyone who may enjoy the right pedal and call them a nob ! Bollox to that.

Understeer is an issue with the 6N but with coilies, uprated arb, strut bracing and some poly bushes it does help a bit. Best is lift off oversteer though, with these mod's it very easy to do and very easy to control on the right type of corner, I've had some wkd sideways action in the valver but only in the wet as the dry would kill the tyres even faster. You just have to find these things out over time whether it be on purpose or by accident ! Just dont do it on busy roads, if i do it in the early hours so i dont scare anyone ! lol

If people want to slate me for admitting that i like to drive fast then go for it as i imagine the majority are simply hipocrits !
