Buying Advice (and hello) !!!

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I'm new here. I've been lookin at getting a new car for a while and a polo estate is an option, and theres a nice looking one for sale near me...

Wondering if you guys can hook me up with some buying advice? Pleeeeeaaaassse?

So, its a 2000 Polo S Sdi estate. It is a one owner car with 43000 on it and full service history, and from the photos looks mint. Seller is asking 1700 quid. This a fair price?

Anyway, what should i look out for when i go to see it? Is there any essential maintenance that should have been done? Anything that is likely to be broken? Any rot spots (id like to think theres no rust on it tho its not like its that old)...

And what are these polos like in general for reliability? I know you all love them but seriously, be honest lol, I'm looking to keep my new ride for at least three years, probably longer, and i do at least 20000 a year and i want a reliable car. I know this car looks good and has low miles but I'm thinkin maybe i should save for something newer as it is 8 years old?

Any thoughts?

Thanks guys

sounds good...

I wouldn't let the age of it put you off but I certainly wouldn't be buying a normally aspirated diesel over the endless TDI options around at good money these days.

hmm, I'm not that bothered really, less to go wrong lol and cheaper on tax and insurance. actually tbh i aint seen a tdi polo estate advertised and I've been watchin for a couple months, just sdi ones. and they are normally around the 100k mile mark for the same money. so i reckon the low miles on this might make it a winner.

worth noting is that I'm in n.i and there is less choice here cos of smaller population so smaller second hand market. so this is probly as good as I'm gona get. just wondering about the long term reliability of diesel polos?

so is there any typical faults with these? or maintenance that i should check has been done by the time its this age?

Hi, I had a skoda fabia sdi and it was brilliant. It had done 190k miles when I got it, and I put on another 20k! That was a grand total of 210k miles on a 2001 Y reg motor!! All that went wrong in the time I had it was a driveshaft popped out, just put a new one in and she ran like a dream again!! I been toying with the idea of getting a polo classic (mk4/mk5 saloon) I reckon these, along with the estates are the way forward!!

TDI ftw mate
