Been thinking a lot recently about the paint on my polo. The roof is covered in scratches as the previous owner used it to store thing on in the garage lol, the wings have both traded paint at some point in there life, doors and rear quarters all have dents and small chips in, boot has 2 dents and a bad chip and well, i need a new bonnet its that dented.

The paint is steel blue which as some may know is metallic. so just touching it up and getting a match is near impossible.

I'm thinking of either having a blow over in steel blue but I've no idea on cost and what's actually involved in a 'blow over' I think id prefer this as in the long run its going to work out better and be worth a tad more when it comes to selling it.

OR do i go satin. And before you all boo me and call me a sheep, I'm NOT doing black or green

So... My 1st thought was blue, as you rarely see blue and i have the bonus of not ringing n posting stuff to declair a colour change. and with the inside and other bits staying steel blue it wont look too odd.

But I then started searching google as you do for satin cars. and well, i found some awesome stuff and some awesome colours.

Gray was a bit wow, yellow and red.

But I think this has to be a winner for a colour.

My main question is. What's going to be the easiest, what's going to look the best and what's going to be the cheapest ???

I can defo say I'm in love with satin at the moment lol.

I dont think polos suit the satin look but iv only seen the usual colors (black,green ect), i do like the look of this though.

Id be tempted to go for a similar blue to yours but in satin.

That's what my 1st plan was tbh, find something as close to steel blue but in satin.

Now I've seen white I'm thinking all sorts haha.

stay away from yellow thats my choice :)

hi on the cost n stuff side of things when a blowover is done not alot of prep has to go into it and it would work out alot lot cheaper than going for a totlay diff clour! if u change clour its guna take a while on prep and prepwork is exspensive so you myt be best of doing it you are self I've done the prep work on my beetle for 2months now and got evry pannel straight and its going proshe gt3 green :-D and only costing me 100 quid to have it sprayed that with me buy the paint so id personlay go with the blow over if you on a budget if not id have it a matt yellow with a matt black bonet :-D

Think I've decided on what I'm doing now.

Satin blue, camo roof (in different shades of blue n black maybe. then maybe a matt black bonnet so i chalk it :p.

Probs get a spare bonnet (one minus dents) and carry on the camo look or just have that satin blue.

As for prep. no matter what I do ill be prepping it myself. No way am i paying a garage to do something I dont mind doing. I can do it to perfection that way. May be spraying it myself if i can find somewhere to do it (I have access to all the kit and I know what I'm doing)

If I'm spraying it satin blue I only need to key the paint yes? or do I need to prime it all?

yeah it depends if your paint work is orignal and good is so personlay fill the dents in and primer ther and 80 it and then go over the car once with 320 and then 480

but of dont go down to metal =] sounds nice with the satin blue and camo roof cant wait to see that!

I was thinking off getting my mk4 polo done in matt white, as my mate has offered to do it for me properly

The paint work on mine at the moment is pretty poor

The satin blue camo roof sounds amazing.

Started on this today (when it finaly stopped raining an hour before i had work)

But none the less, all of the tiny little dents were wet sanded and now filled. Didn't have time to flat the filler though but will crack on with that tomorrow. hopefully it isn't too windy again so the primer will actually go where I want it.

What's the best way to go about the camo? masking off and spraying? will take a while but i cant think of another way.
