polo sold... now with BMW E46 content

hey all,

i decided to stop being lazy and actually write up a progress thread of how the car has changed since i got it about 3 months back:

this is how i got her:

P07-03-09_1634.jpg

but a mate offered me a deal i couldnt refuse on the wheels so i got rid of them, knowing fully well that i would soon have a different set of wheels and the 16s where rubbing on the coilies anyway!

so unfortunately i had to go back to the old steelies that i got supplied with it that came to me like this:

P15-03-09_2006.jpg

and after an evening hard graft turned out like this:

P15-03-09_2125.jpg

i soon got bored of the look of the wheels as i thought that they looked un-tidy so i found some 15" wheel trims at GTi spring festival that i had the brilliant idea of moddifying! after cutting an smoothing all of the mounts off of the back so there was nothing able to pierce the tyre i zip tied them on to give the car this look:

i was really happy with it at this point and rolled around like this for about a month, i then did a routine check of the car one sunday and found that the hubcaps where they were so tight had rubbed a 4mm deep grove into the sidewall of the 13" tyres! so had to roll around on 2x space savers on the front:

so i removed all of the hub caps and replaced the tyres and then rolled around like this for a while:

until i found these babys and painted them up:

i then decided to do some painting while i had the correct paint coded paint for the car:

front badge changed from chrome to black with colour coding behind it:

rear badge changed from chrome to black with colour coded rear

and then i decided i hated the original door pins:

and so changed them for the 6n2 pins and surrounds :D

so far the car was coming along exactly as i wanted it too, but i was craving alloys :(

so i picked up these bad boys in a bit of a sorry state and put the elbow grease in to get them to how they are today:

lol thanks guys its taken alot of time and effort but i really like the look :D the wheels are the same colour code as the car but are a right biatch to keep clean! i cleaned the car completely and then went for a 10 mile round trip drive to take some photos and by the time i got back they where absolutely filthy with brake dust! ah well such is life lol! thats how shes going to be standing for inters but I'm currently in the process of rusting a bonnet for it which i think will look mint if done propperly lol purely for shows of course!

Jon

What were the first wheels? Avez A's? Always had a soft spot for them. New ones ain't to bad either. Bet there fun to keep clean, white cross spokes

I'm camping from the friday night to the sunday and its 45 quid or so for the ticket, but you can choose either day if you want, its in northampton but will be a mint show one of my 2 favorite of the year!

Looks so fresh with the new rims! Liked the look of this before with the azevs but these look very tasty! Did you rattle can the centers yourself or just prep them and hand them to a pro to be painted?

  • Author

they were pro painted as i knew that they would be a right bitch to paint properly, but I'm happy with them so didnt mind shelling out :)

Jon
