I badly miss my G40, my daily commute is getting longer and I have begun to realise I need to get sensible and get a house - as such my VR has to go.

It's a 1997 (P) Mk3 Golf VR6 in Flash Red.

Tax and Test till March 2010

It's also done 128k (roughly, but will go up as it's a daily)

I bought it back in June this year quite cheap. Since then I've spent a lot of time and money making it look very nice and presentable again.

It has a new set of 4 Avon ZV3 tyres.

Some budget coilovers were fitted around July time. It can go lower but it sits really nicely as it is, and for a nose heavy car it handles well, it's very predictable and easy to drive fast. With a set of decent ARBs it would surprise a lot of people.

For a Mk3 Golf it's surprisingly rust free. The back arches had some surface rust and the previous owner has treated it, but ideally it needs rubbing down and re-painting to make mint. The sills are the worst part - although I got quoted around 40-50 quid to patch them up - so nothing too expensive. Underneath is good, I've been under it a few times on ramps and nothing to worry about :-D

The engine is basically stock, I've chucked a cheapo cone filter on (obligatory mod with a VR6) so you get the VR6 roar. The stock exhaust has had the cat and the middle box cut out, it sounds really nice, since it's the stock exhaust it's quiet, but when you boot it, you will fall in love with that noise!

All the electrics inside work, the sunroof, windows and mirrors all work as they should. There is also a nice Pioneer/Kicker ICE setup. Pioneer head unit, and a Kicker 12" sub and Kicker amp, nothing excessive but provides a nice bit of bass when required.

Right, the bad bits -

- No service history from before my ownership. As far as I understand it, the previous owner died, the car was left as inheritance and whoever inherited it could not find the documents for when they sold it.

- The clutch is on it's way out. It slips a little in 3rd/4th/5th. Drive it sensibly and it's fine. A new Sachs clutch is 60 quid + labour to fit. I would do it, but money is tight.

- As detailed above, the sills will need attention soon.

- The cloth seats are a little tatty. Great seats but an upgrade to highline interior or a red CC interior would be spot on.

Bearing in mind the negatives I am after £1250 ono.

Ideally I would like to get back in a Mk3 Polo Coupe. I would really like a GT coupe, but I would be happy with another G40 + cash your way. A Mk4 6n 16v would interest me too. If you have anything VAG and interesting - try me :)

orite mate is it actually a vr6 or is it just a mk3 golf with a vr6 engine in it? i ask because it doesnt have the splitter. I have a 16v but wouldnt be able to insure a vr6 if you know what i mean.
