cant get quoted less than £3000 for insurance on a 2003ish 1.9 sdi polo i dont have any convictions or anything along those line tryed the compnies suggested in other threads but cant get less than £3000!

any help?

your a lad so its more expensive anyways plus your trying to insure a 1.9. my sisters bf has just passed his test hes 18 and insured a 1.4 seat ibiza on a V reg, hes paying 318 a month!!!

Admiral are really good aswell, if you put your parents on your policy as Named Drivers. Been with them like that for two years now

Make sure you are getting quotes from the companies own private websites though! Price comparison websites are always ridiculously high!

Just to "cover" your arse for when you are at risk for say, a collective two hours of driving a day on average? Not even mentioning fuel and maintenance costs!

how in hell did you get that kinda quote. mine this year is gonna be more then a grand with 2 ncb

and to be fair £3000 isnt that bad for a 1.9 for a 17 year old the lowest i got when i started was £2400 on a 1.4 corsa..

yeah tbf you're trying to get insured on a car with a large engine, i don't think you will do much better.

i have tryed on 1.0 and 1.2 polo's and its still 2900-3000 ish there only insurance group 2 will try tiger.co.uk and direct line see what they give to me :)

insurance groups dont make much of a diffrance.

i got a quote on my polo 1litre and a citroen c5 2.2hdi which

is in group 10 and the c5 is 50 quid cheaper

other factors like the area you live may be a high car crime area this can affect insurance!

Try sticking girlfriends (if got) and parents on as named drivers, it should decrease (as long as they have no points), mine decreased by a fair bit.

I cant believe how expensive insurance has got to young people. I paid under a grand for my first car (1.3 fiesta) then under 800 for a 2.0 306!! I know I'm getting on a bit now so it is getting cheaper for me but balls to paying 3k a year!! Id keep getting the bus!!!!

driving round in a 1.0shed for a year will save you £2k - with which next year you can get a better car! and it wont cost so much!

To be fair if you spend a good few hours ringing round everywhere you can, (Not online!) getting a few half decent quotes together then play them off each other (e.g.Direct Line quoted me 500.. they don't know they quoted you £900 etc!) theres no reason why you can't half that easily, what are they like 64bhp iirc!?

Get the names of the people you speak to and just keep trying, they can always do a better price that the first quote.

I'm 22 now, I paid £900 first year (18) on a 1.6 Driver Mk2 Golf, Now pay like £500 with 3 years no claims on a 1.8t 200bhp A3 all mods declared, just use some sense and save some money! For my G40 I think it was around £500 also all mods, thats with HIC.

i wish i had took rich4130 advice , i 18 now past test in feb , turned in 18 in march , waited til was 18 cuz thought insurance would b cheaper .. noooo i was wrong .. i pay 3200 a year .. £60 a week on a 1996 polo SE ... but cant swap insurance now as cant afford deposit agen .. which wa 500 ;'(

Its not a car but Yamaha YZF R125 (emphasis on the 125cc) quoted £94,457,73 ended up gettin f/c for £250 don't even understand why they would even bother giving a quote like that on a 4k bike

Welcome to the postcode lottery. 1.9 shouldn't matter too much as it's diesel.

If you live in Manc, Brum or somewhere more north or city like your pretty much fucked.
