Hi,

I'm only 15, but I am very into cars + bikes.

Therefore, I have started looking at what car I am going to save up for e.t.c, or take on as a project with my father.

I have seen several cars, such as the mk1 golfs, polos, and lupos.

I thought a polo would probbaly be cheap to insure, such as a 1.0litre 1997 one.

However, I've been experimenting with insurance sites to see roughly how much it would cost to insure one like this.

So I went on a price comparison website to see how much the average quote was for this car, with alloy wheels. The quotes were £3300+??

Will it really be this expensive to insure a car like this?

It's always expensive to insure anything at a young age mate, i'm sure you could get it cheaper than that but it won't be much cheaper, you could try adding your parents on as named drivers, it should bring the price down.

BTW mate, this is in the wrong section, it should be in the paperwork section!

I'm paying £2100 TPFT on a 1.0 6n (1999) searched for a good 4 or more hours and was the cheapest i could find.

I wish I had the same mind as you, would of saved up instead of spending my money of shit I don't need.

Anyway, I always say it's postcode lottery, if you live near brum manc or somewhere more north than that you will pay alot more for insurance than someone south as it's got a higher crime rate. (Thread by the Knott insurance guy showing statistics).

Yeah 1.0 litre is a good start, try 3rd party F&T AND Comp as some insurance will quote cheaper for comp than 3rd party. Also, if you pass your test just before your 18 try then as it can go down anywhere up to around £500 even though you have no more driving experience.

Also add your dad and mum onto insurance as named drivers, so long as they haven't had any claims and it should drop about £50. Also lower the amount of miles your doing, won't drop much though.

You can do yourself a favour and do the pass plus scheme if it's available to you. Plus I found it helpful, proper driving but someone guiding you around and stuff, my instructor was great.

Thats all I can think of, anyway It's a long way off for insurance for you to worry about insurance but if you do want it cheaper defo the 1litre mobile.

If you want something quicker, try a diesel personally I hate the stuff but insurance is cheaper for some reason and they are not too slow.

ahaaha i cant believe this I'm 15 and i am really into polo and lupo's. Mate i typed in on go compare today at lupo 1.0 e 2000 and it was 3rd party T&F and the lowest was even 931 pounds , were you doing fully comp?
