widened lexus blue 6n2 - end of the line?

Featured Replies

i bought a new polo with the intention of swappin a few things over onto my old polo and making an 'alright' car, but i managed to buy the new one for £600 and with a rare 100bhp engine in it i though i would sell my old polo and make a home built on going project/show car.

this was my old motor........

DSC_0722.jpg

i picked it up about 2weeks before xmas, and to be fair it was no way in the best of condition but i was happy to take it for the price i payed.

it has a few nasty dents in the roof and rear quarter, it was missing a front bumper and headlights and the gearbox missing 5th gear

but on the plus side the car has a very clean interior, a 4-2-1 manifold and straight through, full clifford alarm, smoothed roof and door handles and wings

i spent the first couple of weeks running up to xmas puttin the interior in and getting the car back to near enough standard + also trying to sell my old car

but when xmas was over it was time to crack on with the car......

here are a few pics of whats happened so far....

pretty much how it started

100_0965.jpg

100_0964.jpg

100_0963.jpg

bought a gti front bumper

100_0962.jpg

smoothed the bumpers and primed them

bumper2.jpg

bumper1.jpg

i got rid of the 4-2-1 and straight through and bought a standard exhaust setup as its not really my thing loud exhaust..........

then for the paint.... i didnt really wanna do it myself but i couldnt afford bodyshop prices and got let down by a few people...also i refused to drive around in primer and filler.... so this is what happened

prep.jpg

prept the car keyed up paint (what there was of it) and masked up

gave it a coat of primer .... flatted back then i got to the paint.......

i tested it out on the bumper first as it was my first time painting anything with a gun and compressor this is how it turned out.....

paint.jpg satin metallic grapgite grey haha (please ignore me acting up for the camera in the background hahaha)

and this was the finished product

100_1028.jpg

imo I'm happy with the paintwork i do miss being able to polish it though

i flatted back the paintwork but it just felt to me that there was too much grey so i carbon wrapped the roof in 3m....... it had nothing to do with the fact i couldnt get an even coat on the roof.......honest haha

100_1035.jpg

i fitted some 8000k bulbs to brighten things up a bit

100_1034.jpg

i though you all might wanna see what goes on in my garage aswell as reindeers........i go through a hell of a lot of relentless and cigs.....weekendsacheivment.jpg alot of people ask me how I'm still alive what do you reckon?....not bad for a weekends work eh? hahahaha

heres a few shots when it had finally got on the road

modified nationals

modified_nationals_pictures_20112001.jpg

on the way home from mod nats

rollin.jpg

and on stand with FnM

rollin.jpg

shorty after the car unfornately spun a shell on the bottom end on the way home from leeds after dropping its guts on the m62

i was devastated and didnt know what to do keep the car and fix/break it/ scrap it and then a saw an advert for a gti conversion and i was straight onto it.... i stripped out the engine/gearbox and everything else ..... obviously in the safest ways possible.... jacks and alot of planks of wood haha

drop.jpg

and then a week later i made the trip down to northampton to pick up the new engine...... i couldnt of asked for a better seller better contact or anything from no1naz great communication and did all he could to answer questions aswell did dubprince thanks lads

so after 3nights and 1day of working and a few phone calls to dubprince it was in and running like a dream

in.jpg

and a few more relentlesses :D

in1.jpg

and heres a few rolling shots from the way to scotland last weekend for scotland car show

driv.jpg

future plans:-

-smooth the rest of the boot out and replace the badge recess with a mk5 golf boot handle

-double din headunit and diamond d3 components

-buy some brand spanking new wheels but i will buy them before i show you

-replace standard exhaust system probably to a quiet straight through with a hidden backbox to stop scraping and constant blowing

-try and get hold of some nice leather for the interior

-hopefully clean out the engine bay and tidy a few things up in there to make it a bit more presentable

Actually sick!!

is that actually sick in a good way b-shaw........? :D

haha yes yes yes.

Sick in an amazing way ;)

I'm highly impressed with that, top work 8-)

Its class because normally people go with a matt finish and it completely ruins it as most of the time its a half arsed job.

But this is for once, epic.

  • Author

cheers mate yeah i like to go by the rule of do it nice or do it twice haha so if I'm gunna do something i will do my best to acheive thats why i chose compressor and gun over rattlecans but thanks for the comments lads more to come shortly

  • Author

right then..... thinks its time i brought this thread back to life again as i have got alot of plans to put into action before next show season.

nothings been really happening as of yet in regards of changes to the polo as it stands as I'm waiting to try and get hold of a unit to work out early next year instead of carrying on warring with my stepdad over the mess he leaves in the garage. instead i have started stock piling parts so as soon as i get a unit sorted the work can begin......

and one of the first things on the pile is a full gti brake setup that i got for the bargain price of........... a whole £22.04 hahaha

brakes.jpg

the front discs pads and calipers £1.04

and the full rear axle discs pads calipers abs sensors and suspension £21

so i was a happy man..........I'm going to strip them all down get new discs and pads and get the axle and calipers powdercoated just to keep things tidy

other plans are.....

say byebye satin paint and get a full respray.... i know what colour its going but i will let you find out when it happens

custom wider arches to acompany the new wheels

some new wheels..... i have some in mind but arnt 100% yet ( the steffans will be getting a refurb and be up for sale very shortly so if your interested drop me a message)

4-2-1 manifold and full stainless decat system.... I'm going for a twin center exit like the lupo gti's but this means i will have to get rid of the wheel well..... and i know i said I'm not a fan of loud exhausts but its a gti atleast its got a bit of power rather than just alot of noise

induction kit..... any recomendations other options other than bmc cda's? I've been looking into the simotas any reviews?

mk5 boot handle and get rid of the original

alot of polished parts i.e catches and bonnet lifters ect

clean up the bay so it is presentable......i will be painting the block and everything when it comes out again for the respray

new gti splitter seen as though my dog decided pedigree wasnt making the grade anymore and decided to give my splitter a try

and thats roughly it.... my plans are to get all the exterior work done for when the season starts up again in march and before modified nationals i plan on having the interior done although i still have no ideas as to what to do with it yet

i will be trying my hardest to keep this thread going this time and will be uploading photo's of the stockpile and other little bits and bobs along the way

also if you know of any good places or people who can help me out along the way with parts ect i.e manifolds polishing or any tips for doing so it would be a great help as i will be doing majority of the work myself again (other than the respray) and spending alot of time at the office earning the pennies for this moneypit of a project haha

comments/opinions welcome

thanks and gooooodnight

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh I actly love the colour buddy really though it made the car am liking how you do it all your self btw

  • Author

I know I apsolutly love the colour personally and I have had some good comments about it which makes me happy buyt I miss the days were you spend a full day cleaning and polishing and stand back and go daaaaayyyyummm that's shiny haha...... So unfortunalty it going :( but I might get a little cheap run about and paint it satin grey one day haha I love the challenge of doing things myself I do get a bit of help along the way but I'm always learning and its something I enjoy doing....... Thanks for the comment pal

Why don't you paint it the same colour but laquear it ? ? ?

I actly love the colour I actly tought about painting my on car a similar colour that's until I made my own top secret colour lol
