Yep. I recognise the reg.

It's a nice car, but it's a right hand drive Mk2 Coupe S shell converted to left hand drive and with all the gubbins swapped over from the GT-G40. So basically it's a Coupe S G40, and really no more remarkable than any of the conversions on here. The extremely rare original shell was scrap.

If you want a Mk2 with the proper engine, then great. But if you want an original GT-G40 this isn't the car for you.

Yeah, I'm not sure if it's wearing a different reg though. Think the thread's on here somewhere. It's a bit of a case of the lad didn't actually realise the implications of what he was doing til he's done it.

This is a great car if you want to take the engine, slam panel and chassis bits out and put them in a different Mk2. But it's otherwise a pretend GT-G40 with the steering wheel converted to be on the wrong side. Not a clever purchase.

Only what the engine is worth. A grand, perhaps, because the charger and intercooler bits are rare. I wouldn't be running it in that shell though, at the least it'd be just as well off in a right hand drive GT-G40 replica - at least the steering wheel would be on the right side. You could cut the metalwork for the servo off a Mk3 - seen that done on a Mk1. It'd be a decent car then!

I'd price it solely as an engine donor because if it ever got looked into too closely by plod/insurance as it is at this time, you'd probably lose the lot.

never actually seen the car, but will always remember this for the EPIC debate that went on about it at the 2008 rolling road day.

doesnt sound a very good situation to want to buy in to. great for a donor however and what a nice mk1 you could make!

Hmm I'm a little confused. If the original car was reshelled into a silver mk2 and at the same time had a new engine fitted, then what really was reshelled as that just sounds like the silver car was knocked together with random parts.

Also what then happened to the silver mk2? Was it painted black? Is it now wearing the chassis numbers from the from the original G40? What's the full story behind it?

I'll be bidding up to £50 as I could do with those wings and bonnet, if anyone out bids me with a view of using the engine bear me in mind for those wings

how i got told the story guy, it has registration papers for a LHD G40, however its now got a different shell and different engine.

make your own mind up!

It had the vin and registration from the the gt-g40 on the coupe s shell as was sold to me as an original.People are bidding on it its up to £114 with 11 bids and now states that it has had a reshell and i could sware it didnt when i first looked

Yeah I guess my previous estimate was a little conservative, it's not worth £1,500 though. And everything has done epic mileage - I'd want to see lots of receipts for the rebuilds. What worries me is what else has been buggered about with if it's a ringer.

At least you'd get to see how well the engine runs before buying.

Good man, I feel sorry for the person who buys this. That is if they think they are getting something of value.
