Ping! Where did that go?

Featured Replies

I removed a broken heater resistor from my heater fan and just re-connected full speed and earth

while I investigate repair or using a pulse width modulation controller.

While I was doing that I must have pressed on the heater fan housing because this last week there's been more cold air than usual coming in even with heater on full, fan on full which will normally melt my shoes.

Investigated in the bulkhead and found no clips at the top of the heater fan housing, so unheated air must be sucked in around it.

Found one clip underneath the fan. Hooray.

About 2cm by 1cm springy metal in profile it's like a number 5 without the top bar.

Put it back on. Checked how much housing still wobbled.

Ping! Where did that go?

Think I heard it land in the engine bay.

Can't see it, nor on floor.

Perhaps I'll try a magnet.

Anyone know whether VW still sell 'em?

Or what that kind of clip is called?

I'd say vw will still have them as they are a standard type clip and I'm sure they use them on some of there current models.

Just describe them to the dealer and I'm sure they'll find some.

Of not then you could get some from a breakers yard but like I said they will most probably have them at vw.

Yeah, VW dealer did have 'em, part number 321819059 £1.01 each.

Not in stock, but arrived next day with prepayment.

The trick to fitting is - you slide them on from the side while pushing the two halves of the fan housing together. If you press them into place they are a loaded gun with a hair trigger.
