Model: 1991 Polo G40 (original - not conversion)

Engine: 1272cc PY - Internals are currently stock VAG. Jetex induction kit, Jetex Exhaust System, Dewedged throttle body, 65mm pulley, PoloAce 7300rpm chip, catch tank, Full Blend Charger (0.7-0.8 Bar) Parts recently replaced: Oil pump, spark plugs, intercooler, boost pipes.

Suspension: 40mm GMax kit, Full Polybush kit, front lower and rear upper strut braces.

Brakes: Std 239 vented G40 set up with drums at the back.

Wheels and Tyres: Various sets recently - Original BBS RA 13's - ATS Classics - 15" G60 Steels - 14" Golf Driver Steels (Currently back to Original RA's)

Exterior Styling: Colour coded bumpers, LHD drivers side tail light (twin reverse), german style plates, G40 badges removed and replaced with Carbon "POLO" badge, German "D" badge on boot lid, uprated headlight loom.

Interior Styling: Rear Headrest, Fire extinguisher, Boost Gauge

ICE and Security: JVC Touch Screen CD/MP3 player, Sub and Amp, 6x9's - Immobiliser

Comments: This car has had more off road time than all the contestants in last years Paris - Dakar added together!! Since buying it in Jan 2005 i've done 13,000 miles of trouble free mileage - then the charger started making weird noises - taken off and sent to Pitstop for a check up - pulley fitted by previous owner had damaged the keyway. Charger back on 10,000 more miles, charger gives up the ghost and eats the oil seal damaging the scroll - ££££ for a new charger, even though the old one is rebuilt, it cant run a smaller pulley so sold the original charger on ebay. Turned out the oil pump was to blame, car was off the road from August 2005 - April 2006 while all this was going on. New oil pump, new charger, new intercooler, new radiator, along with loads of other small bits and pieces at the same time.

Still to do list: G60 injectors, sns stage 5 chip, GT inlet, 63mm pulley, FMIC, Treser 3 spokes mirror polished, some paint work touch ups, 256mm up front, discs on the back. eventually (about 140K) going to get a 1341cc done & head flowed and cammed.

Yes! 3-spokes should be finished and fitted for the Polo Show!

Plus all the other tuning bits should be on too!

I've since seen the light and refitted the orange indicators on the front and the side repeaters! (just looking for a set of early tail lights to go back on in place of the late spec smoked ones. Got a few more bits to do. But all further mods are off the priority list until I get my charger fixed!

Loving the tresser wheels, marmite indeed but i think it works.

Never seen a white colour coded rear plinth before but that works a treat with the white plate.

If you getting early spec lights i reckon using a L or R hand german spec one so it matches.

Maybe even two with white reverse lights, just an idea tho.

not a lover of the tressers but meh! talk about elastic band tyres!! are you still after some stock early spec lights? i have a set if you want? £5 + postage?

Just had my charger serviced - run in at 1200 miles.

Fitted a 2nd set of sidelight bulbs into the lower section of the clear indicators - they are 12volt bults and are really bright compaired to the original ones! Its back on its BBS's to match the Trailer.

And got our Project Shitbox finished too!

The Tressers will be going back on later in the year - I wasnt too happy with the 165/50's on the Rims as it made the rear end really twitchy - so i sold the tyres and i'm getting some 185/45's instead!

really liking the three spoke wheels. As you said , pure marmite.

Tressers would have looks great on wheel spacers and -70mm down

My favorite look was the G60 steels though - spot on IMO.

Didn't you say at the polo show '06 that you were unaware that you were running a 63 mm pulley hence why the charger kept blowing seals.???? I noticed that in your description of future plans you are still planning to run a 63mm pulley. I thought that the g-lader can't cope with such a small pulley hence the phrase "self destrcut pulley"?????

Have you managed to overcome this problem??

I still have the G60 steels, but they are on the GTD now! The Tresers are going to get a set of 185/45's fitted and then maybe a H&R 60mm kit fitted instead of the Gmax one! That should make it sit better!

The original pulley had an exterior diameter of 65mm, but some cheeky bugger had taken a file to where the belts sit and made it a 63.6mm pulley. Which is why the charger popped the first few times, but we fitted a std pulley for a while with no problems, then went to a new 65mm alloy pulley with the correct profiles and its been fine since!

I did think about running a smaller pulley again, but after spending £750 on a new charger i'm going to stick to 65mm Twin V's with belt dressing on! I'll have to change my plans bit at the top! I'm going to refit my G60 injectors and SNS chip next time I have a weekend off!

I'm now saving up to buy a Seat Tera diesel van so i can get the block and crank down to PSD to make me a 1500cc G40! But that wont be for about 18 months!

Bought a spare G40 engine to get sent away next year for a rebuild.

While i'm off i'm going to do some work to the interior - with customised door cards, black Corrado front seats and the rear seats removed and the floor smoothed and carpetted - maybe sort out the weird wiring problems with the radio too - its JVC touch screen and everytime I go over a bump it turns itself off!

I hated those treser wheels when i saw the first photo of them on their own, but on the car I love them! They look so cool.

New tyres are being ordered for the Tresers in a couple of weeks - going to strip out the black paint and repolish them again so they are shiney!

Ok now i'm bored! Time for a make over! Keep your eye's peeled i'll update all this week and I do stuff!

Charger is going back to pitstop along with the oil feed and oil return to make sure there is no problem there!

Fit new exhaust manifold gasket

Polish rocker cover

paint charger bracket and charger elbow (paint charger when it comes back)

Paint all the boost pipes under the bonnet (dark grey metallic!)

refit the G60 injectors and chip

oil change (syntha silver & VAG filter)

new plugs

Strip interior bare and fit new seats

Order Tyres for the Tresers!

Charger is now off and ready to go back to Pitstop for a check-up.

Old bracket is due to be blasted and painted along with the spare elbow I have too!

Looks mint with the tresser's!

Oh and it needs lowering! :)
