Phil's (polo01) mk5

Featured Replies

Model: Mk5 6n2 1.4 8v Match

Engine: Pretty standard apart from a K&N 57i induction kit, Stainless steel powerflow exhaust system with cat replacement pipe

Suspension: On cheap adjustable suspension at the moment. Prob sitting about 85mm all round

Brakes: Standard!

Wheels and Tyres: 16" Huhrer's (kinda borbet A lookalikes) 195/40/16 on some tasty Dunlop SP9000's

Exterior Styling: Front and rear bumpers fully smoothed, along with the sides and boot. Reiger front splitter. Rear smoked lexus style lights, black angel eyes, gti grille, black badge....i'm sure there is other stuff :smoke:

Interior Styling: Mountney steering wheel, Tints - medium at the front, dark at the back

ICE and Security: Nout!

Comments: Think the spending is over for the moment as i am currently looking at another progect car......hopefully a G60 Rallye :unibrow: but little replacements things are smoked repeaters, s2000 ariel, maybe a gti splitter.

Larger changes for the distant future may be a badboy bonnet, decent install, leather interior and possibly a engine conversion

Anyways heres a couple of pics! I'll get some more up a wee bit later tho!

alreet Phil! cars looking great in those pics!

i reckon the engine conversion would be a great idea! gti would be good conv but i reckon 1.8t would be the nuts! i wouldnt change anything exterior wise on your car apart from the smoked side repeaters but thats just me, think it looks awesome! the rollin shots in our vid show your car off a right treat. Ross

looking at the pics........i wanna go lower man!!!! Grrrrrrr.....its impossible to be 100% happy with a car! Install is 1st on the list tho!! I want a head unit like mouse's :drool::drool:

yeah mouses headunit is awesome! i was surprised at the difference in sound quality between his old and new one.. even without a speaker upgrade! dvd is quite a cool feature, i don''t reckon its what i would get! i would suggest getting a top quality headunit which'll have the same sound quality as mouses without the screen and will leave you with some extra £££ for some other mods! Ross

Are you getting any rubbing at that ride height mate?

no rubbing at all mate, iv had 2 people in the back and its still not rubbed at all.......surprisingly. yours might have slightly lower ET than mines tho mate, so just watch.

I'm thinking of getting coilovers to replace my suspension kit and go to about 75-80mm (currently at 60mm). But I'm not sure. At the moment I get no problems at all, but I want to go lower

hi just wondering if your rear bumper had to be cut for your exhuasts?I've got the gti and I'm unsure wether to get an exhaust on as i think without having the bumper cutout, the exhuast would hang to low.

Phil!

You are my saviour!

I have a red polo 1.0, (17yrs old and in debt) black wolfrace street octane wheels, black rear clusters and a black chrome exhaust.

I want the whole red and black theme but have been struggling to find those headlights.

And.

When you took the door strips off, was there any rubbing down needed?

Also, (a lot of questions, I'm keen to learn :-) ) how did you go about flushing the boot because i dont want to go through the whole 'adding a sheet or metal over it and filler etc'.

ATM, the car looks fresh and I want to keep it that waaayyy.

Your car looks mint mate.

Cheers

Your plans seem to be coming along nicely mate! Ithnik your next step is to get it decked on the octanes, then you wont feel so pressured to get all the bodywork done so quick....it'll look great lowered.

But if you can afford it at the moment, then by all means, go all out on the bodywork.

www.rimstyle.co.uk or .com, cant remember. But they are quite pricy, set me back £232 with the upgraded bulbs.

The side strips need to go through the same process as the front and rear, the strips need to be taken off, filled in and smoothed, bit frustratin, but i'd recommend you just smooth the front and back and colour code the side strips. Will save ALOT of hassle as you wouldnt need to spray the whole door and rear wing. I only got mines done cos work was gettin done on the wings and doors anyway, if they werent then i woulda just left the side strips.

As for the boot, yeh it will need some sheet metal welded on for the gap left by the boot handle, but filler could just be used for the recess left by the badge. Should only set you back £150-200 so it aint that pricey. I'm a student aswell mate, and now starting to struggle after spending all my cash on it :-D :-D :-D

couldnt be happier tho mate. Any questions, id be happy to help.

haha i know what you mean mate. i want to go lower too!!!! but its low as it can go at the back on the adjustables! i plan on going lower at the front when i get the gti splitter

Well i had a different style exhaust on before this one that had a recess cut in the bumper, but this one would have required it be cut aswell. if you do a tidy job of the cutting, then it'll sit nice and flush to the bumper

mate...

you could have not answered that better.

first time I've ever received plain and straight forward advice telling me exactly what i wanted.

ill show you the updated pics after i have started creating the beast.

cheerssss

/\ /\ /\ /\ Ditto!

By the way Phil, love your Polo :D

cheers danny....hope yours is coming along good? saw it at the polo show and looks a real tidy motor.

And to both of you.......GTI :drool::drool:

Hi, try powerflow exhaust they will fabricate a whole new system from scratch to your specs. They will even cut the bumper for you to make it a perfect fit!

cheers danny....hope yours is coming along good? saw it at the polo show and looks a real tidy motor.

And to both of you.......GTI :drool::drool:

mmm its ok lol, getting an induction kit soon for it, Jamesb is helping me out with it, thats when i can afford it lol. I would like to modify mine more, but its this GTi i wanna save for. Need a well paid full time job first tho haha.

By the way i love your smoothed bumpers, think it really does the trick on mk5's, and i dont think u need to go lower at all, it looks a perfect ride height :-D

Yeh save for the GTI, if your hearts not fully set on the one you have at the mo, then just bide your time and wait for the right GTI to come along  I'm just at college, so no well paid job for me here either man. cash funds running low at the mo.

Yeh the smooth bumpers make a huge difference on the mk5s. think i'll keep the ride height, but do you think i need spacers?? front or back?? very undecided on this.

Yeah I'm gonna wait til i find one and can afford it, it'll be worth the wait! I'm willing to travel miles to get what i want as well lol.

Hmm unsure on the spacers, maybe 10mm front and back? I dunno, dont know much about spacers lol.

hey Phil think your car is awesome definatly one of thebest if not the best mk5 i have seen :thumbsup::thumbsup:

When you bought your Angel eyes did you get the black indicators in the pack? do you know what i mean? sorry not very good explanantion but on the mk4's there are the headlights, indicators n side repeaters. i thought the mk5 headlight was all one piece but i noticed its like the mk4.
