Hi,

I currently have the standard VW radio/cassette player in my car (MK5 Polo) but have been brought a new head unit. I'm just wondering if anyone nos how to remove the standard cassette player? Is it hard to do...or will I be better off leaving it to a professional? My bf had trouble getting his one out and in the end he jus got some guy to do it for him. If you have any tips on removing it please let me no.

Hi Jen,

I assume you have a 6n2 polo with a beta or gamma headunit. You can do it by yourself if you wish. Let me explain:

1. There are two release points on the head unit as thin vertical slits (see photo next to the RIGHT/LEFT seek button).

2. These actuate the release mechanism (see photo).

3. In order to release the headunit, you need to push two release keys (halfords et al) into the vertical slits and this 'unlocks the headunit'. The alternative is to make a set of release keys from a stong credit card (see photo) - I would probably make new set slightly longer. I warn you have to really give it a good shove to release!
