Realut Clio Sport VS Polo gti

Featured Replies

Hey I'm after either a polo gti mk5 or renault sport. Which of the two is generally more reliable? Also parkers doesnt work anymore so i cant check out insurance groups. Are sports generally really high insurance groups if me memory is right about group 15 or something.

One other thing, how can you tell the differnce between the mk5 polo 16v? i know there are two versions one with more bhp.

If i want something fairly quick should i just avoid the 16v?? non gti's i mean

Thanks Mike

Clio sport, As in the 172? I'd say the polo gti is more expensive and less power, but the Clio sport is French so it might fall apart like a toy car, but it is foooking fast!

The Clio is probably more reliable lol

Also, what's the problem with parkers? According to Parkers, the 172/182 is in group 16 and the Mk5 GTI is in group 12.

renault sport 172/182/197 without question!!!

I have a Polo GTi and my brother has a Clio Sport 172.

His costs more to run, maintain and has had more problems with it!

As said the Polo is slower and looks nicer/rarer i think but i think more reliable just be careful of the gearbox problems.

I'd have the clio if insurance wasn't an issue.

take the Clio. really good car with its performance and handling!

polo all the way in my eyes :) chip it !!

just done an insurance quote on a renaultsport.. think i wont be getting one..

polo all the way in my eyes :) chip it !!

still aint gonna touch the clio though.

The clio would rape its sorry ass, probably at most things too, apart from being a VW.

wouldnt watse my time on a polo gti too many problems by the sounds of it. clio 197 R27 is where its at.

The clios will fucking ass rape the polo Gti all day long..

Petrol wise its more expensive, reliablility? Depends how its treated. My mate has a phase II 172 with over 100k on the clock.. Its needed.. new rear shocks, brakes and steering rack so far.

would much rather have a vw all day long, but everyone has there own choice good luck with what u decide !!

Clio is a billion times better.

Polo GTI - warm hatch

Clio 172 - hot hatch.

I have a mate with a clio 172. Nice car. A good bit quicker than a Polo GTI and the handling is also miles better in the clio than the polo. Although he's had a few problems too! gearbox went i think it was...

My girlfriend has a Clio 172 Cup, its fantastic to drive, helluvalot quicker than the Polo and if comparing standard vs standard, the Clio's handling, roadholding and driver feedback are in another league. On the downside they are a lot thirstier than the Polo and insurance costs a bit more. Otherwise a top car!!

Re the 197 R27, I'd save my cash until the New Year, then get a "standard" 197 (leather, xenons, A/C etc) and add the Cup packs to it. Think Renault are bringing the Cup packs on for then, so you get all the benefits of the R27 without the mad decals and garish paint

OOOOOOH... we mustn't start saying that there is a FRENCH car that is better than a Polo!

Surely the Polo would piss all over the Clio in every respect, be better equipped, more economical and last forever because of the incredible build quality!

Errr, maybe not!

Clio Sport all the way!

The 172/182/197 are all serious drivers cars and critically acclaimed. If you drive for pleasure often I'd choose one of these. It's one of the few cars on my "I'd really like to own that" list.

I've been really tempted with a Clio Sport, they've really dropped in price lately and there's loads of them for sale on piston heads etc.

While I'm not convinced on the reliability, the one thing that really does put me off is the interior.

I think I need to take one out for a good drive to make me really want one..

Bang for buck the Clio is just better.

The exact same reason why G40s are good. Everyone praises them but other cars that have the same fun factor but from another manufacturer are fround upon because they are less reliable.

If you want a reliable economical car you don't look at Polo GTIs or Clio 172s. You look at diesels with lots of buttons and boastings of boot space and MPG.

Yeah you want a certain amount of reliability but even then mk5 Polos are fairly poor. Can't be any shoddier than the Clio.

clio everytime for me, a mate owns one and its great fun! only known it to go wrong once..

wouldnt watse my time on a polo gti too many problems by the sounds of it. clio 197 R27 is where its at.

They are massive in real life haha!

Apparently great to drive but let down by a lack of mid-range oomf. EVO suggested a centrifugal supercharger to give nice linear boost and a better mid-range....if only Renault would do it.

My choice would be a 182 I think... apparently that's the one to have.

I need to get a shot of one soon!

I have a 172.... They are expensive to run... £205 road tax for a start let alone the petrol consumption. Already had a new backbox put on at 28k (02 plate) - thats a Renault for you!

It will leave a polo gti for dead though... :p

I wouldnt swap it for any other car

clio's are alot quicker, but mine just about kept up with one around the twisties (thank you mr eibach!) that 2.0 is heavy over the front end.

The 172 is impressive, but will cripple you with running costs.

Oh and the clio's have plastic front wings (aint that right heather........) which makes them look odd when you look at the paint.
