fitted the weber...seems flat

Featured Replies

ok i finally fitted the DMTR weber carb (golf kit) to my 1300 mk2 bread

feels rather flat to drive..definatly no faster at all, should i be feeling a kick when the 2nd butterfly opens , anything i can check? or is it just a sign my pooburg was in good shape minus the cold start probs

another thing ...i undid a wiring multiplug to remove the pooburg, should i have done anything with the wires left behind as now my handbrake light flashes in sync with the dummy alarm led :? might be unrelated but I've never seen it before ?

What jets do you have in there

the wiring for the pooberg should be unrelated to anything else

standard 1300 golf kit jets...seems to drive well just feels flat, the pooburg had a little kick when the 2nd butterfly opened

so I'm right just to leave the wires hanging then from the pooburg...maybe i dislodged something under the dash

standard jets = gay

need

first stage:

105 main

155 air

f30 emulsion

second stage:

115 main

175 air(roughly)

f30 emulsion

so your saying that would transform it from a flat turd to a firebreathing beast?

might have a play when funds allow

can you feel a kick when the 2nd butterly opens

well its an improvement over the standard jets, but swapping from the pooberg to a weber doesnt give much gains anyways, so dont expect too much

nah maybe I'm expecting too much....i dont spose youd notice 3-4 hp anyway

can you feel the 2nd butterfly open with yours?

Yes second butterfly is good, it increases noise output and gives you that extra push from 3k-7k

You have a GK Inlet manifold?

nah standard mh manifold

thing is i feel no kick for the 2nd butterfly...maybe theres a problem with it, i'll have the g/f work the pedal and watch to check it opens properly

I was going to say, make sure your throttle cable and quadrant all work together properly. Getting someone to push the pedal with you checking sounds like a good idea.

If you place a BK bolt-on air filter the sound output will increase ridiculously when you open the 2nd butterfly but in this cold weather don't even bother

Keep the pancake system, you should be able to feel the 2nd butterfly as you push down on the pedal around the 2/3 - 3/4 mark.

If you kept your Pierburg well-maintained there isn't hardly going to be any improvement with the Weber, maybe 5% -10% max on top of your initial power. The pierburg is actually quite a good carburettor if you think about it...it had an auto-choke and a swirl pot, pretty advanced if you ask me for the time.

If your pierburg was badly maintained...like mine than the increase throughout the rev range would feel significant. I actually got scared the first time I drove it home.

The main thing you'll notice in these cold winter months is only going to be the fuel economy I'm afraid. Come summer you can pull out your bolt-on filter and it may feel ever so slightly more responsive. The fuel economy is more of a treat than the sound, you will come to respect this in time.

EDIT: the wires can disappear off the face of the planet. Shove them to one side.

perhaps the throttle quadrant doesn't provide enough leverage to open the carb all the way?

well id be happy with any increase in fuel economy and the proper starting etc...i didnt buy it looking for more power but kinda expected a tiny bit more

pretty sure its opening fully...but i had to use a broom handle to push the acc while i watched lol, i'll double check it

Proper starting? Get a swirl pot, that will cure any hot start issues and help to prevent any irregularities such as bubbles in the petrol flow.

seems to start good as it is tbh mate...its the dmtr with a fuel return so i dont think they're as bad?

had a tinker this morning...I've slowed the fast idle as it was bonkers , and ajusted the throttle to open 100%

So how does it run now?

Can you feel that extra kick when the 2nd butterfly opens now?

  • Author

put about 60 miles on it today....deffo runs smoother than the pierburg , it will pull from real low down in gear etc and it starts properly too

as for the 2nd butterfly kick...no cant feel that :?
