Now de bump-stripped 8-)

Will get pics up tomorrow once I've got all the sticky stuff off the passenger side.

Spent till like nearly 10 doing the drivers side in the dark, probably be crap in the morning.

Used Kam's way of doing it, jug of hot water and it nearly just pulled off. But with the aid of a filler thing to speed it up a little. Couldn't find a 'fudge wheel; anywhere so just used the filler thing to get the sticky stuff off. Not the best but ill sand it all down for the respray anyway.

i got my fudge wheel from ebay,

glad the project is coming along nicely!

i got some plans for my hella grillle spotlights...

Looking like a good little project. I would say go over the primer in matte black or something else. Just cause the primer is porous and you don't want your hard work to get undone!

good point.

I've got half a can of steel blue left from when i did around my door handles. Will give it a coat or 2 in that.

Only problem is, its always windy and if its not windy its raining.

Could get the mini out of the garage, but that's rusty enough, cant let it get wet lol. and then the garage is tiny so would still be difficult. Fecking weather

got some lacquer actually, could cover the primer in that 8-)

Well, I've aken the rear brakes to peices.

Reason behind this 1 was grinding or catching. i just assumed it wasnt adjusted and that due to the rubbing id need new shoes. So.. i take the drum off and out falls a spring. oh... lol. Its put a groove all around my drum and the spring is that worn it snapped when i pulled it a bit.

so i figure. new spring on that and i can leave the shoes on. Going to the scrappy tomos to get 1.

Got bored and decided to see if the drivers side was ok, id bought a new cylinder for it as the nipple had snapped, i figured id just leave it till a later date when i change the shoes. anyway. off comes the drum and I look at it thinking hmm.. its full of brake fluid lmao! Cylinder was knackered. New drum from the scrappy too by the looks of it. take too long to clean it.

So.. my rear brakes have kinda been pointless. I'm really surprised the handbrake was as good as it was. the car cut out before moving anywhere. id end up just pulling my rear wheels rather than them turning.

Few updates yo!!

Got bored and did this...

DSC00503.jpg

(the usb stick 8-) )

Whilst doing that, i sorted my perminant live out and broke my aerial cable (cheap helfrauds crap). actualy, not cheap. the genuine HELLA aerial is £2 cheaper!

Waiting for my new one to come in at ECP.

Got a problem with the stereo though, it keeps cutting out randomly then coming back on? I'm sure its not a loose connection as i had a good look at everything after i broke the aerial cable lol. So bad earth maybe??

Managed to sort all the rear brakes out finaly :)

took the head off one of the nuts on the drivers side cylinder. nothing was budging it. tried drilling it out, putting a screw head on it, dremeling the head off, nothing worked. so in the end me and a mate just kept hitting it with a hammer until the cylinder broke to peices. carried on hitting it till every last bit had fallen off.

New one is on now after having a scare that id popped the thing before id even fitted it.

Also got the fanbelt tightened soooo it doesn't squeal everywhere now lmao. it was kinda fun waking the neighbours up early and late though haha.

Now I've fixed too many things. something important is bound to break now lol...

Few randoms of mine and jonPDpolo's rocco, spotted his car at work again lol!

I'm fed up with stock height and cant afford a lowering kit.. shall I cut the springs? lol

How much can i take off without them popping out.

MOT is in a week or so, will be doing it right after that if i do. then it gives me a chance to get the kit before next MOT.

Accidentally moved as i was taking the pic. but it didnt turn out too bad tbf.

DSC00738.jpg

All dents are now gone :D

All bare metal is covered :D

Nest step is to get it all covered in some form of blue topcoat so it doesnt look too daft for GTI fest.

Then next month I'll be on to the respray.

Got this to fix next week at college

DSC00733.jpg

Replacement panel is in the boot.

It's finally booked into the garage on the 24th for the gearbox change. Will be collecting it on payday, 2 days before GTI fest :)

Should be getting all the paint the week after that so then I can start spraying panels and bring it off the road for a week or 2 for the full respray :)

Next months pay will get my BBS refurbed and tired up (hopefully)

Then its just getting the custom exhaust and lowering springs/shocks off Phil ready for my trip to Germany in September.

loving the hella grille on teh old school ford!

DSC00762.jpg

DSC00763.jpg

Next job is to get the primer blue, and get the hella grill back on.

Then its ready to go to the pod :)

New gearbox on Friday :D

What a great thread this is, nice to see someone making nice subtle improvements over time to their car rather than going for the usual slam and rims and turn the car into a turd route.

Looks good and honest, I've done very similar things to my square like dealing with all the wee dents and even had to weld a whole section into the front panel. I've even been rolling on steels for like two years now.

Respect.

I guess you like lights!!!!

Thanks for the comments guys :)

Tiny little update.

Got the hella grill back on :D

DSC00764.jpg

Got to get all the primer covered over in blue before GTI fest not, On;y have Sunday and Monday evening to work on it really as well. Going to be tight getting it done, specially if it rains or something.

Then its in the garage tuesday-Friday having the gearbox changed.

Hopefully I'll get it back friday morning rather than afternoon then i can get it all hoovered and cleaned.

Need some bits from the scrappy too if they have any MK3's in.

Satin blue is coming into my head again, or satin grey.

Satin is cheaper to buy, easier to paint and quicker to paint. And been as I need it all done by sept for Germany (seems like ages, but when you are limited to 3 hours twice a week to work on it) its a push. Plus I need to get more practice in on spraying at college before I do mine.

nice one toby i love the fact that you are just having a go at this all yourself I'm really impressed, shall be inresting to see how it turns out for santa pod, fingers crossed for you matey, nice weather today just hope it hold out for u, and us next week

good luck matey i shall see it first sunday mornin yeh??

sorry for the silly question, but what are you using for the primer ? spray cans ?

goodluck with it, I'm liking it :p

thanks :]

  • Author

Cheers Dan :D Yep, Sunday morning. but it will still be dark at the time I'm meeting at yours I bet

Classic; Yes, using rattle cans.

The paint mixer at halfords is broke, until Wednesday...

So. I got another VW paint that looks very similar (cant remember the name now) So its going to look even more odd

But, a similar metallic blue has got to be better than grey primer.

I might (hopefully) Be rolling on some 13" BBS for the show, if all goes well and i can get them on Friday. there's a MK3 golf at this college ri go to for the body work. They had it given them for the students etc to practise on/work on. Anyway. its on 13" BBS (G40's) with descent tires. I asked the tutor there who's it was etc and he's asking the head person there if I can have the wheels. I've offered £40 + my steels so they can still move it. Will find out on Monday if I can have them but will have to collect on Friday when I get paid.

Will be awesome if I'm rolling on BBS for GTI fest :D

sweet mate i hope u get them tht will b wikid, then u wanna slam it and will look mint :)
