how does the phil j kit handle?

like a shopping trolley with a broken wheel

are you kiddin?

I think its pretty good, but its the only car iv driven without standard suspension,

Cant wait to upgrade to summit decent.

yup, my old mk3 had philj, even with uprated ARB bushes and allsorts the ride was skittish, bumpy unforgiving and alot of bump steer!

Been in a HnR mk3 and one with a weitec kit. Definatly worth paying a little extra in my opinion!

It was OK at 1st, now its fucking vile.

you feel EVERYTHING and potholes can actually kill

It handles ok, but yeh. bumpsteer is violent.

HnR kit is the 1st thing on my list for after Germany.

Got all excited over the past few days and simply had to play

Picked the crane up last Tuesday, took a while before i could be bothered to erect it lol

Some playing

Engine is now all stripped but the cambelt / waterpump / head etc.

Random of what i came out to outside of work

Some silly old woman in a metro thought this was parked :-o

Quicktime nudged mine forward before she came back to her car lol. So close, fucking unbelievable.

Engine Is having new headgasket, waterpump, cambelt, various gaskets n seals, full paint up and a damn good clean.

Just need some specialist tools when i get paid again and should have it all done pretty swift after that.

Does mean I'll more than likely be missing BVF though :(

Japshow ftw :ninja:

looking good mate. basically same as what i'll be doing to my GT lump. Are you using the GT 'box? Will you have your 8P redundant?

If i was you id completely strip it and sort the pistons out, or atleast give the crowns a good clean. Maybe even change the rings.

Think ill be getting an ABD soon enough :)

Love the car though tobes.

I'm not going that far, haven't the time nor money. Need it ready for Germany. Well, more importantly Bugjam and poloshow

I'm stealing the 5th out of it Martin. Going on the GT box :D

I'll be going ABD next year when the 'other' engine gets built.

Had a bit of a blond moment Friday/today

Suddenly wanted a GT badge, so sent out a few txts and sorted myself out with one off Olly.

Picked it up today at Dubmania, only to realise it wouldn't fit on the hella grill

However...... I didn't let that stop me

Will be painted orange asap, then fitted properly when the GT goes in :)

Also, a few weeks back i reluctantly spent nearly £30 on some BBS centercaps. The only ones i could find that where the right size.

Then today i did this to them

GT badge looks cool placed like that man!

Nothing big, but a update none the less.

RA's fully primed, just need keying with the scotch pad thingy then painting :D

Rocker cover primed, same as above

GT badge ready for primer

Custom BBS centers in the making :ninja: Sending one off to a secret location to be measure up etc.

Given up with trying to get the shiny doors satin, that flatting compound stuff did feck all. Soooo i think I'm just going to respray it all again (the entire car) But it wont be till after Germany now as i simply don't have the time. But we shall see what goes down.

Pay day is getting ever closer, plus some moolar for cutting down some fucking massive Laurel hedge (£275 :D ) both of which will be going on car related stuff

My shopping list should consist of:

Tyres, Toyo CF1's (best i can get in the size i want)

All engine rebuild shizz (Headgasket n other gaskets, water pump, cambelt, new bolts here n there, sensors maybe n whatnot)

Paint for engine block, box n head :ninja:

Rear strut brace

Bonnet lifters

Brake hoses, pads, discs, drums, shoes, caliper rebuild stuff

Several different rattle cans :ninja:

mudflaps

more tools

component speakers for door pods

And probably other things that I've forgotten

Soon as I've got most of the stuff it should all start coming together pretty fast :)

Blimey Tobes, cracking on ay you! :-D

God knows how I'm gunna afford it all. The car will be pretty epic once its all done, but ill have feck all spending money for Germany at this rate.

Really want braided brake hoses, but they are sooo frigging expensive for what they are. May have to make do with standard ones for the time being :(

Really don't want to, as it was one of the things that needed massive improvement on the ring last year.

Will do it all in order of importance tho.

engine stuff, tyres n brakes being the most important

Rear strut brace after that

Then all the other crap i listed down

Oh and above all, the tools to do the jobs

toby i REALLY want to use that picture in this thread lol

Feel free :ninja:

I read half of this when i had my last polo and your car was just being painted I think

and didnt come on ClubPolo for ages,

so i thought id read the whole thing and I must say its an epic build thread.

I'm only down the road in Cannock and just brought a Mk2 that needs a clutch but as soon as its done i think i need to get to some local meets, not been in AGES!

hopefully see you at some point to appreciate the paint :)

Looks good man - good thinking with that badge was jokes when you realised it wouldnt go on

Need to get that engine in 8-)

Run the 8p box and give me the gt one :ninja:

get a pic of the badge from a bit further back mate, i wanna work out whether i like it or not lol :)

Plans sound good.

Cheers dudes :)

Still pissed off with my shiny boot n doors  but ill have to live with it now i guess. Really wish id have just left them as they where :x

Engine will be in asap Olly, i need money before i can continue any further with it. Soon as I've got it tho ill be going mad with it haha. And there aint no chance I'm running a 8P. Just the 5th ;)

Will get another pic of the badge but not until its painted n fitted properly. As its now a million colours (god knows how many times its been painted) so will look a bit daft.

This GT badge is a good idea!

Woop!!!

Just ordered the last few tools i needed to carry on with work :)

Brake bleeding kit

Torque wrench

Gear puller

Also ordered my engine paint :ninja:

Why on earth do you need a gear puller you tool whore?!

week 2day i finish uni :) so we can get cracking, I will just come live in you garage and do the conversion as you sleep

  • Author

To swap the 5ths around Dan! I'm running a 8p 5th in the GT box ;)

And lol! Thats like a dream, having the engine conversion done as i sleep.

The spi should be coming out soon. I reckon 3 weeks from now the GT will atleast be sat in the engine bay.

Probably be closer to 4 weeks though. Lot to do all at once with this conversion. As I'm doing all the braces, ARB mounts n brakes together with it.

As well as putting the rear beam on, taking the petrol tank out n painting it etc etc.

Will be off the road for a while me thinks.
