All depends on what happens tomorrow.

Got the petrol tank back in, but thats all from today

Came down with some fucking savage cold last night, properly knocked me about :(

Just pissed off now as i could have had the car back on all 4's if it wasn't for this. But i guess just getting the tank in is a massive achievement with how i feel right now haha.

I'd come down and help but Vagfest this weekend and picking up a KR for the rocco weekend after! :-D

I've got a tin of that smooth blue hammerite you can have if you want it dude, too bright for me

soz bout the poor effort 2day fella, hope the cold has gone

  • Author

Yeah man ill have the hammerite haha!!!

I was looking at getting another tin of it to do some stuff at the front :ninja:

No problem Dan, I've felt shit all day anyways so i cba to do anything

Did do a bit more whilst the match was on though

Mounts for the beam are on the car

Rear braided hoses are half on

Rear beam has the handbrake cable holders and the bushes fitted

The thing that has the fuel pump n filter etc is now on too :)

Try and get the beam on tomorrow if my bolts from VW arrive on time.

Been a good weekend of progress

Started Saturday by getting the Arch trims back on Bretts G after he rolled his arches

Only way to do ti....

Then got the rest of the shizz on the back of mine

DSC00407.jpg

Did a few finishing things on mine with the brakes and stub axle spacers and we had it back on the ground

Started removing bits off the engine, then it was time to chow down on Dominoes

Then out came the engine, after some rather funny events. One including me having a mild heart attack due to a rather large puff of smoke lmao!

Random wheel swapping then helping Brett get the windscreen back in after fitting a fresh headlining.

Heartless :(

And something to remeber the day by after the material glue stuff was spilt

Just a shame that all of us stood in it at some point lol!

Need to tidy everything up tomorrow and start sorting the bay out or building the GT back up.

Day wouldnt have been possible without Dom, Olly, Brett, Dan and Jay. Cheers lads :D

dude get the pic off Brett of us lot lowering the mk1

  • Author

Will do lol!

was a great day tbf, i still cant get rid of my g-smile  glad we got the engine out in one piece so we can get the gt in soon :p

  • Author

Yeah man!

GT should be built up soon

Just bought a proper gasket scraper tool as nothing i have is getting the old stuck on shit off the block. Attempted it on Saturday with some stuff but i got nowhere.

Soon as thats clean i can whip the new gasket on and bolt the head back on the block. Happy days from then on really as its all pretty simple

Only thing I'm really not looking forward too is fitting the cambelt and tensioning it all up. I'll cry if i do it wrong and fuck the engine.

Might get a mobile mechanic to come down and do it. Wont take long so most they could charge would be n hours work i would have thought. I dont mind paying a bit for peace of mind rather than not and then destroying all the hard work.

ill ask i may know someone. and you said eatin dominioes.. we ate all of ours u failed after 1/4

It was a day full of great banter! Olly i hope those g smiles last for weeks.......

More pics from the day, if anyone wants to know how to lower a mk1?!:

mint!! we managed to get my arch a fair bit down, couldnt really tell at the time, going to have to be done!

just read this thread start to finish :)

great work, and well done for doing things your own way

where did you get the satin lacquer from? i did a satin black e30 a while back and couldnt find lacquer anywhere for it, its been sold since but, for future reference it'd be good to know where to get some!

anyhoo, must sleep now

  • Author

Cheers dude!

The laquer was just mixed up for me

Normal gloss with a load of matting agent. not sure on the ratio though.

hmm ok, so yours is satin....and youve used matting in normal lacquer.

so its either less matting agent than if you wanted full matt, or it could be the normal shiny type paint with the matted lacquer producing the satin effect. what you reckon?

i guess best way to find out is paint something and experiment with what works
