Hell yeaahhh!

I love polishing engines too, and chrome. My dad thinks I have a problem, but it seems not

Oh and, cracking progress.

Picture-less update.

Headgasket is done, engine is looking more like an engine now.

Cleaned the gearbox, head and block. Got the 1st coat of paint on the block and gearbox. The paint I'm not overly happy with, colour is amazing but its sooo thin that the coverage is shit.

2nd coat to go on tomorrow, maybe even get the head painted (different colour and requires taping)

GT loom is in the car, just need to sort some random cut wires, that i have no idea what they are. And sort some gromets for the bulk head and thats sorted until the engines in.

Hopefully ill get all the engine mounts painted and other things I'm hammeriting done tomorrow too.

Nearly ready to drop back in the car then.

Only thing I'm overly worried about is doing the cambelt as i know its game over if its done fractionally wrong.

  • Author

Engine is back in :D

Just gotta start putting everything back on it and sort the wiring out. And a shit load of other stuff lol

Did you put the cambelt on first? or gonna get it done now its in?

if he's pussied out of doing that cambelt again

did it

Great work as ever.

Just a question. What did you use to clean the bay? or have I asked that before somewhere? I'm looking for something that will degrease but not have anything that would effect rubbing down and painting. I've heard of gunk and fairy mixed but always wary of salt content in fairy.

Cheers.

I used white spirits and a bowl of fairy washing liquid to clean it.

Its not a great shine but it gets rid of all the muck with ease. Might polish it when everything is in (probably at poloshow as i wont have time to do it before lol)

Not a massive update really as its been a slow weekend due to a mass lack in motivation to do anything. Always feels like its one step forward and 3 steps back. Even simple problems piss me off atm haha! But, thanks to Brett i kept pushing on and did at least something today

Old front brakes are all off, drive shaft's both went back in, then i attempted to get the sump off only to realise the driveshaft is in the way

So off that came again to get the sump off.

Sump and anti-roll bar are now hammerited up and will be going back on tomorrow.

Also, tonight (at about 1) i decided to fit my new caliper seals. As its something i can do with a cuppa tea, in front of the computer in my bedroom.

Get all my brakes fitted tomorrow and hopefully back on 4 wheels again.

Have a few slight problems with some missing bits, and suspicions that the inlet manifold isnt a GT one

Well the GT inlet manny cant be anything other than a gt or a g40 one surely , Dont know if the NZ came with a different one to the GT but i doubt they would have made 3 MPI inlet mannifold of all different bores.

Might be wrong though.

Good work mate anyway.

NZ inlet mani is the same as a G40 one.

Opinions vary as to whether the increased bore size is actually useful on the GT with GT manifold...

  • Author

Reason i noticed, was that Brett bought a GT one for his G, the Bore on that is bigger than the one on mine.

Part number on mine is the same as the one off his G

Reckon it would make much of a difference running with a G one rather than a GT one?

Guess its going to have to do for now as i cant afford/haven't got time to sort another one before poloshow.

I've not swapped them over but one opinion I read was that the NZ/G40 inlet manifold on a GT may provide a smidge more low-down torque (smaller bore=faster gas flow=more air in cylinders?) but no perceived loss of bhp at the top-end.

I would personally be happy running an NZ/G40 item unless scratching for every last bhp.

Sweet!

I'll leave it be then, get it painted up today ready to fit tomorrow. Needs a damn good clean, god knows why but its full of gunk lol. Get the carb cleaner out.

2 days to poloshow and its still in bits

Just painted my expansion tank, fitted it only to realise i need a fucking GT one

Mission tomorrow to pick one up off Dom. Last thing i needed as its wasting time.

However most the other shit is now attached and looking sick!

Should all be straight forward jobs tomorrow to get the beast running. then spend friday doing all the finishing touches and sorting out my arch trims. Then give it a damn good clean.

you heading this way tomorrow then? I'm out all day but should be back later on depending on what time your down

Not bothering. Its only a level sensor so I'm fucking it off.

We disconnected bretts and ran it for a while and no lights or anything came on. so yeh.

I'm collecting the correct one at poloshow tho so if anything does go wrong i can swap um.

Get some pics up then!

No chance!!!!

Nobody other than locals (and some special peeps) will see it until poloshow! And I'll get some awesome pictures taken at poloshow to put up when I'm back home!

And tbh, since i dropped the block itself in i haven't taken any pictures lol.

GET SOME PICTURES UP!

 ^ al have a look at this little beasty when i go polo show :D
