I LOVE these ramps at college

DSC01036-1.jpg

My new best friend :D haha

Held off on the lowering and concentrating on the re-spray now.

Only got about 6 weeks left at college. In that time (3 hours a night, 2 nights a week) I've got to learn to spray good enough and to the entire car.

Prep work will be done at home and the car will be trailered to college.

The paint guy is getting me a blue as close to steel blue as possible. just in flat and not metalic (metalic is more difficult and takes longer)

Satin steel blue FTW :D :D

And listen to this... I'll have all the paint for around £120 :D

So, a full respray for £120 plus masking tape and paper. In a booth with pro's teaching and helping me :D haha

DATE IS SET!!!

On the 8th of June the car will be rolling into the spray booth :D

As of the 11th of this month, It will be off the road for a month of preparation work (around work)

Half colour coded bumpers

Colour coded spoiler and mirrors. Will also be CC'ing the roofbox :p

The badges are all going purple (I think)

Ordering pressed plates when I get paid

Whilst the doors are off ill be fitting the central locking pumps and finding somewhere for the wires to go.

Might be doing something funky with the doorcards too 8-)

Once its out of the booth and back together the new suspension is going on :D :D

That should all be ready for bugjam.

Then the BBS should be done and on ready for poloshow. And then that's pretty much how I want it.

Its taken too long to get this far, cant believe all my plans are actually coming into action now.

Need to fix the horn (just stopped working one day )

Looking good man :) Hope to see you Sunday

nice one toby, glad too see its all coming together bet you cant wait now :)

Soooo

After getting angrier and angrier with the rain. it finally stopped and the sun came out :D

I got this far...

DSC01074.jpg

+ removal of the wipers and guess what....

THUNDER STORM, ARRRRRR. I'm going crazy. The respray is slowly creeping up on me and I haven't sanded a single bit of the car

Hopefully Sunday will bring sunshine (well, all I want is no rain) and I'll be able to catch up on a week of nothing being done due to the fucking weather

Chin up dude :) It wil all come together and look mint in no time :D

IT STOPPED RAINING :D

but it was late, got cracking anyway

1st i thought id strip some of the doors, You will never guess what I found :D :p

Always thought the locks made a strange noise, just thought it was how they should as never turned a lock on another MK3 before.

Doesn't work mind, but its had central locking and I've never even known  Few of the wires had came out of the clamp thingys.

But at least I now have mounting places and stuff all in the right place to fit my new keyless central locking :p And its an aweosme place to put the motor, everyone else seems to bodge it on in a awkward place lol (which is what i was going to do haha)

Then got bored and though hmm, bootlid time. Snip snip

DSC01081.jpg

This was easier than fiddling around with the wires and pulling them through. Plus i only need to connect the No. plate lights up and the rear heated screen wires. Wiper is gone for good, Welding over the whole soon :p

And how I left it.

DSC01085.jpg

Glad I've finally got something done. Not much but still, its progress after such a crappy week of doing nothing thanks to our fine weather

Tomorrow the bootlid and doors will be off and hopefully the sunroof. All weather dependant of course

Coming together (or should i say apart) nicely now man

;)

Smoothing the wiper hole thing out. Will fill the 2 holes for the 'polo' badge with weld too. Will just be keeping the VW badge in the middle.

Re-trim is tempting.. but it will do tbh. The loon is where the fun starts :p. As soon as this is done.

Got back from college early, was still light and it wasn't raining so I drove round to the house (rather entertaining with no doors etc ) and grinded the bolts off that were spinning on the rear bumper.

Sunroof, inner arches, side repeaters and aerial to be removed tomorrow.

Need to clean it up a bit then I can get cracking with sanding it :D

paints getting there

still some orange peel! lol

  • Author

Yeah, BUT with me doing it satin, the light wont reflect off it so it shouldn't be too noticeable.

ANDDDDD :D :D :D The final coat of lacquer will be done (if I haven't done it perfectly) by one of the tutors :D :D So the actual Finnish should be spot on haha :D

All I've got to do.. is make no major cock ups

Your car; did it orginally have some 4x6 speakers in the back?

Cheers.

  • Author

Didn't have any in as standard. Got some 4x6 JBL's in there atm though.

And I don't know Ben. Think its just the paint tbh. They just use any old stuff for us to practise with lol.

Had a tad of orange peel even when the tutor did a panel, and hes been in the painting trade for over 20 years, working on merc's n Bentley's etc. So it defo wasn't him getting it wrong

Hmm, don't know. All I know is that I'm getting better every time :D lol

How did you wire them up to the aftermarket headunit?

I've bought a Sony Headunit, and some uprated front speakers (jus realised, same as yours)

& I wouldnt mind having some 4x6's in the back but don't know how to wire them up to the headunit?
