Stick a block of metal (or a spanner or something) between the crankshaft counterweight and the side of the inside of the block, that'll stop it from turning over. Just make sure it's in there safely and it's not gonna spring out and damage anything! That's what i usually do.

Fly would be the same as above. you just need to stop everything from spinning.

Or if the pulley is on, use the bolt that holds that on, to stop the engine turning.

haha saf.. i dunno whats happened to that oil filter then. Musta stuck. I've bent 2 screwdrivers. One of them is a fucking massive one too haha.

Normally they just come off with some effort by hand, but nay this one I'll grease the thread up on the next one i put on.

I'll get the surface rust off the clutch and pressure plate and yam it back in. Probs just that putting me off tbf lol.

The breather broke when it toppled in the smartie i think, if i can get a new one i will, but superglue will do the job if not.

That pulley, came off stupidly easy. I did it kneeling down, didn't even need to stand up and put my weight behind it

Where as the oil filter, i had to stand on the block and kick the pry bar to make it move haha.

Oil seals all look good for the crank, so happy days there :)

Just got bored and curiosity won me over. Makes it a bit easier to clean and paint i guess. I can actually move it around a bit easier now too, fly weighs a flippin ton

Its probably a good idea to use brand new ones, but i re-torqued some good condition used ones when last time and when i came to take them off again they were fine.

the thread can come out of the block, thats fine, its how you would replace it for a threaded stud to fit an oil cooler, (mk5 polo gti and lupo gti oil coolers will fit)

should be able to unscrew from the filter.

those homebase screwdrivers are gash, i had a screwdriver graveyard in the old unit.

btw you could have got a socket and ratchet on the filter to loosen it!

Threaded union its called, less than £6 from VW :) done deal.

£1.80 a bolt for the fly. Needs 6. Whack

The bearings for the conrods arent as expensive as i expected from VW. Be less than £25 for the lot at trade price.

Piston rings on the other hand... £30 per piston lmao. Least i think it is per piston. From my experience id say it was though..
