Noo, cant be deleting this.

Most of it is build thread up until recent. But even then theres build related stuff on each page lol.

43 pages... 3 years of a constantly changing car

Besides, be no fun without all the banter.

did you get the avy from the forsale section tuby?

  • Author

Nope.

Sticking with AFH now. easier and cheaper. and both of those are needed if I'm to get this ready for poloshow and Germany in time lol.

I'll do the 1.6 later on in its life i reckon.

Wonder who got it.

:ninja:

Just been looking at your cylinder head and my flywheel is definetly wide enough. I thought the 16v head was much wider than it actually is.

Also checked it over with the DTI gauge and it had an overall fluctuation of 0.28mm!, meaning that the distance between the lowest and highest part of the headgasket surface was 0.28mm, cant remember what the haynes manual states as a tolerance for the run out but i think its much lower than this.

You got the dims for the mount yet?

You can get the head baked in an oven with some force acting on it to straighten it out, weather it is worth it is another matter....

Sam.

Or just skim the sealing face?

.28, is like .0112" I'm sure some one mentioned in the thread about my afh head that the tolerance on the mating surface was only 3 thou, if that's true then your heads almost 3x over tolerance

Some one most of cooked the living shit out of it

EDIT: I should add the tolerance I was talking about above was the tolerance before it needs skimming

Edited by McLOVIN

head came off matt-polo-6n, i was assured it was sweet, that sucks ass =[

Yeah will need skimming, whether you will be able to do it within cylinder head minimum height tolerance is another thing (don't know the tolerance on that head)! This engine sounds extremely fucked dude, if it was me i think i'd bin it, what happens if you put it in only to find out it's got a cracked block/ head. Hope you didn't pay a lot for it

bore it out to 1800cc toby :-D

The 1.6 is gone anyways, swapping it for an AFH i know is good. so no problems there (or so i hope )

Maximus, work your magic on that head ;)

And negative on the dimensions. Been at work all day. I'll go have a look in a bit.

  • Author

Briscoe.. Its a done deal. I'll pay for it to be done.

I'll send the bill for the pistons to you though

No worries dude, will try and get it skimmed/sorted as soon as i can.

Its fucking filthy aswell lol, did you leave it in mud for a few days lol?

  • Author

I kept it covered up, but yeah i noticed it was filthy haha, dunno why i bothered covering it thinking about it

Saf, you need that relay roller thing? If not I'm sure Dom will be grateful of it as he needs one anyway lol.

i do indeed mon frere!

just read this from start to finish and seriously toby fantastic build, i read all build threads on here and this is just immense good work mate keep it up

Cheers Chris :D

Just savaged the TCA's

DSC00737-1.jpg

Bit of a pig to do removing those rubbers. Broke a drill bit  But got there in the end, with the use of a knife, hack saw, 2 hammers, big socket, 2 blocks of wood and a big vice haha.

Paint when I've got the money for some more hammerite (thats how skin't i am, cant even afford a tin of paint haha) then poly bushes going in :)

Oh and yeah, cant be fucked to keep the wheels on the d-low anymore  As I've posted um up on a few other forums already lol.

so theres one of the 6's

Looking good toby 16v in a Mk3 is a good challenge I'm not that brave. Long read but I made it. remember when you were just rubbing it down and had the towbar feels ages ago.

When I got my head skimmed the shop said it could be skimmed 3 times in total then would get contact not sure if Mk4s are the same tho.

Happy poloing, got to finnish now you have come this far.

I'm not that brave either there is a lot id like to do to my current daily but aint got the melons or funds to do it  i got as far as changing my grill on my sapph and that was a chore  you wont have any toolage left if you keep knackering them

Bought some parts :)

CBR600 FY carbs (off a 2001 model) with trumpets and inlet rubbers, Look almost new :)

Powerflex inner TCA bushes

Sorted out a starter motor, MK3 sump and oil pickup and the alternator pulley for the AFH

Swapping the AVY for the AFH at some point this week

finally got the paint for the subframe etc.

Only thing slowing me down now is the easter holidays and the G-laderseite website not working properly, and them not being back till 2nd of may. So cant order my outer TCA bushes.

New master cylinder when i can get to GSF and some other bits and bobs.

Soon as I've got all of the above bits, i can get the subframe and all brake/suspension related parts back together and put it back on all 4 wheels again :D

Engine in shortly after next payday if all goes to plan :D
