Satly, i dont know how many times i need to tell you......

Cheers Alex :)

Some bits arrived today...

2 weeks since i ordered them my carbs arrived, not as pictured so I've been on a rant over email to them. See what they have to say.

It was pictured with the ram pipes/trumpets, but not sent with them, and one of the fuel hose elbows was smashed to bits in the box.

Elbow isnt there fault, ill forgive if they sort me the trumpets as i ordered those ones because they were pictured with them. Nowhere in the add does it say its not the item pictured.... So as far as I'm concerned i should have received them?

Anyway... the good part of today

G-laderseite TCA bushes are here, less than a week after i ordered them (bearing in mind, these got here quicker than the carbs did from Yorkshire i think)

Not only did i get the bushes, i got a sticker AND a bag of Haribo. That put a massive smile on my face haha, made my day (until the carbs arrived). Never see companys here sending bags of sweets with the poly bushes  Legends!!!

Get them dine once I've had a cuppa. Maybe even on 4 wheels by the end of today. Although its just started pissing it down. Tomorrow off work though so It should be done by tomorrow evening at the latest.

That will be the biggest amount of progress since taking the engine out

Hitting it with my killer skimmer 8-)

Out of the 15 or so heads iv skimmed personally, this has been such a pain in the arse,

Trying to get it to sit nice and flat on the bed of the CNC took us an hour and a half on its own, then the little bastard needed 3 passes to fully skim up, then one additional one to get the desired surface finish (Very slightly ridged, beneficial for biting into the head gasket). 6 hours worth of processing went into it lol

Its done now anyhoo, PM me what you want me to do with it then.

M

that head skimmer looks beefy

and the finish looks good too

Its only a baby to be honest,

The surface finish doesn't look the best there either, the cutting fluid stains the grain and makes it look like it does.

Mate, thats FIT!!!

Actually did put a smile on my face. Todays been full of smiles haha.

Cheers for doing it :D :D :D

They cost me a total of £44 something posted.

More than powerflex ones, but such a harder compound. They are like rock solid

Aparently, PPP are now stockists of G-laderseite stuff.. So they may be able to get it cheaper. I didn't know this until today though

May have to get some, though I'm buying a stage 2 subframe soon so will no doubt get it all at the same time.

  • Author

DON!!!

Stage 2's are where its at!

If you can strip the fucker down, then go for it. Even if its just a quick clean to get most of the crap out of it then alls good. If robbo can squeeze it in for cleaning then ever better.

Dont think robbo can do it mate, yeah i dont mind cleaning it up for you, though the best thing to do would be for you to leave it to soak in parafin, then go to town with a hose pipe and brush.

What we doing about stem seals?

  • Author

Well if u wanna do that? Just add the price of the paraffin onto the bill ;)

Stem seals, we can sort when it comes to putting it back together? As ill wait till i get the HG set so as i don't buy them twice.

Gunna attack putting this back together in a min :)

See if i can get the ARB back on on my one, was a task last time though.

So you want me to strip the head, clean ,then lap in the valves?

Id rather you paid for the parrafin mate, I cant afford it at the minute.

  • Author

Leave it for now Max

Might have a go at it myself, doesn't look too difficult to do the valves.

Found this video when i did a google search.

Thought it was quite good, made it look easy haha.

2 weeks I'm gunna sort myself a hire car, I'll blast up n get the head along with probably a few other bits n bobs while I'm up your way.

Hope i get a diesel... I'm gunna be doing a LOT of miles in those 2 days lmao.

valve lapping is easy, just time consuming just remember to replace the stem seals, unlike my mate who belt snapped in his clio and he didn't replace the seals which means his car now runs like shit.

I love how g lader blocks come with sweets :)

And yea, i rebuilt the head of my 205 and it took and evening in front of the tv, not a hard job really, a bit fiddly replacing the seals but take your time and you'll be fine dude :) Its also dead satisfying when its all done and nice and shiny!

That was 8v though, so it may take you 2 nights in front of the tv

ARB is still being a nice person. kinda given up for now.

This is my bedroom floor at the minute

DSC00780.jpg

2x CBR600 FX/FY carbs

One for spares (taken from a non runner) and the set closest is the set going on the car

Ram pipes off to be cleaned and swapped to the running ones.

Choke thingy off for polishing

Plastic top cap cover doodaars are off the spare set to be painted and swapped over to the good set.

Oh, and lurking in front of them all, are a pair of BMW E30 air vents :ninja:

Hire Van is booked for early morning pickup on Friday, so i should have most parts of the puzzle come Friday evening. Including the actual AFH that I'll be using, and not a broken 1.6

Also picking up some GT steels :ninja:

That video is balls, he laps them for about 5 seconds, takes them out wipes them off and just sticks them back in

Doesn't even go through any different compounds, doesn't inspect them for any pitting.

Need to at least check em with some engineer's blue!

  • Author

It still gave me an idea of how to remove/re-build um as i had no idea at all

Checking them over for stuff and cleaning is common sense, however I've no idea about this engineers blue haha.

Just did something stupidly scene also, Emailed Rotiform :ninja:

engineers blue is just an inky substance that happens to be blue and shows up imperfections and can be marked easily

Dude are you using both of them air vents? ;)

  • Author

Haha. Only using the 1 dude ;)

Few small updates

Had a blast yesterday in the hire van  felt so good to be driving something again, even tho it was just a little vauxhall combi van haha, actually felt fast :o

Anyway, i now have my AFH :D

Also have paint for wheels and stuff, set of GT steels with fucked A539's AND the knowledge of Ollys phobia thanks to his mom telling me

Got the pikey valve tool off of Guy, legend!

HG set, MK3 sump gasket and headbolts purchased from GSF

Servo and MK3 sump collected from Si (also a legend for lending me a ratchet strap)

Need to find somewhere that stocks master cylinders, GSF fed me BS that they are dealer only.

Took the odd cat to Compomotive (and nearly made a mess when i walked into the showroom) and found out that its a 101.6 PCD which enables me to use wobble bolts, which i ordered 4 of today.

Need to somehow measure the bore of the wheel now to order some spigot rings. But I've not got anything thats accurate enough, nor can i find a vernier caliper small enough to fit inside of a wheel other than cheapy plastic ones which don't look too great.

I know roughly what it is, but theres a few you can get that could right within a fraction of a mm. Want the perfect ones ideally, especially for the one thats gotta use wobble bolts.

Max, I'll get them measurements tomorrow, providing i remember

Av not been online in like 3 Months and I check up on this and its still not done ! Get it done

  • Author

Give me money...

Did a real quick change to the measurements for the plate for the engine mount, as the ones i found from Dans thread had a few flaws, like it fouling on parts of the block.

mountmodifications.jpg

Also put some rough measurements as to where the holes are, to the center of the hole. Only rough though so if you are to use these, drill the holes a tad bigger than needed.

SOOOooooo

I did something silly today

Tied the driveshafts to the steering rack with a ratchet strap, to stop them twatting the floor/subframe. Pushed it round to the house half way we hear a BANG, stop to look to fund the strap had cought the rubber boot and round itself around the driveshaft as it spun.

It did a little damage....

DSC00786.jpg

DSC00785.jpg

Also managed to snap the ratchet strap. Bit of a fail all in all. Just expected it to spin, didn't intend on it moving and getting a grip of the boot. Didn't even cross my mind that it could have happened.

On another note, the subframe is all in, after some drilling and abuse from a hammer.

DSC00783.jpg

Just the bolt on the end of the ARB to tighten which i forgot about and its good to go. touch up all the scratches too, its a mess after making it fit

Reverse rake FTL

DSC00789.jpg

What the fucks happening with your mount!

I'm gonna end up lobbing this thing in the bin lol
