lol there was nothing wrong with my measurements toby, it was just a rough size of the sheet metal needed prior to making it fit neatly

Dont worry dan, its made to your measurements

I'm gonna leave it to toby to drill the bottom holes anyway.

Yeah max thats fine.

Never said there was anything wrong with um lol. But as you say, rough size.. the measurements I've done should be bang on (nesides where the holes are) As i noticed you had to take the corner off your mount.... Mine corrects that problem ;)

But the mount isn't done to your measurements, because as usual , they were too late lol. Worst comes to worst you can tickle it up with a file.

pffft, i got u them the day after i got the engine.. hardly late

haha nice one ;d

I've just had to go back and find the point where I last read your thread and read through all the new pages ha, looking forward to seeing it completed bud! :)

anyway, back to exam prep! nice 45 min break lol

So, whos up for another fail of mine? Well, i say mine... I blame Dom and olly for this one

Day we took the spi engine out, dom and Olly came down to lend a hand, whilst i was fannying around with drums and bearings, i gave them two the task of sorting the new brake shoes out.

Looked at um and all looked ok, didnt think much of it and yammed the drums on, all good.

Shortly after fitting the GT engine and needing to stop (when i hadnt bled the brakes) i used the handbrake to stop, only to hear 'bang bang bang' Just kinda ignored it though as it only did it when i pulled the handbrake. All still stopped fine after bleeding um etc

Anyway, the other day i thought id have a look to see what the problem was.

To see that they had actually been put on backwards and it was the wheelnuts twatting off various parts of the shoes

Anyway, thats all sorted now. And talking of backwards, i had the rear shocks on the wrong way too, with the spacer the wrong side. So swapped that back today too :)

Then got bored and started tackling a few other jobs

Whipped the servo out, just gotta paint the new one and yam that back in. Took the steering Damper off also. Had to use a sodding breaker bar to get it off the rack mount lol! Think I've sorted a new one of those now too :)

Oh, and whilst it was up in the air and my wobble bolts had arrived, i thought id try the odd cat on.

It took some super pikey'ness to make um fit with the wobble bolts mind. Might be a tad unbalanced now

Anyway, got um on, heres some pics of the fitment.

And one of the Don that lended me a hand today

Then thought id make a start on something id been itching to do ever since they arrived.

Rough hole cut and mocked up...

DSC00798.jpg

completely cut out and mocked up sat flush

And from a distance, pretty stealthy already. Will be covered in textured or matt black paint when its in properly.

Gunna glue it into place, fiberglass it in properly then smooth it in with some body filler. As its sat into the recess for the fogs, means i can get away with just painting that area and not the entire bumper :)

I'm happy with it so far, think it looks cool 8-)

Looking sweet mate didnt say anything about the alleycats!! they staying pink? You best get this finished by worthersee.......... lol

  • Author

haha, I've had the cats for a while now, there a bit of a pain in the back side tbh

But no, they aint staying purple, although its a sick colour lol. There going the obvious colour ;)

and LOL... If its not finished by then i think ill be suicidal.

I hope to do all the work i want to it this year, then spend all of 2012 saving up for it i reckon, its gunna take some saving is that trip

oooh

finally some pics to look at of progress lol.

Your leading jake now

Looks good tobes, reaaaaal good

the purplepink goes well with your car, good progress

Think a camo roof of some sort is most definitely on the cards.

Washed it today as it was covered in bird shit, to find that one of the fat fucks had eaten through the lacquer and even a bit into the paint on the roof

Surprisingly i kept calm  but yeah, pretty pissed off now to say the least. Roof now has 2 imperfections that i cant stand to see. So I'm defo playing with the vinyl camo roof idea to hide said annoyances.

No progress as such, not at work tomorrow so I've gotta not oversleep and I've gotta get cracking on some jobs no matter what the weather is doing. The longer its outside under the trees the more chace of damage to the paint. So gotta get engine and gearbox painted. Doorcards out and sprayed with the vinyl die and as many other things painted in the garage as possible now i have paint.

Sooner its back in the garage the better :)

DSC00809.jpg

2nd coat on the front of the engine tomorrow and the gearbox. Gunna go prep the box now, just needs a quick clean and a key, as its bright orange

doesnt look like you cleaned it fully!

  • Author

well that pic was before the panel wipe ;) But it looked immaculate compared to before

he cleaned the front, which is easiest and painted over all the baked on gunk at the back of the engine

  • Author

STFU Neil

Back was easier to clean as there was less oil n shit.

the front was plastered other then the left, as you can see theres still black paint to the left, the rest was just rust coloured cus it'd all come off

Some small updates

New steering damper fitted today, and cleaned the bay and started looking at the spi loom, what i need to keep and what i need to bin

Gearbox is painted, its pretty special too. Some might think it looks half arsed and lazy, however i think it looks like some sort of special paint effect so I have left it (it was orange, its now 1 coat of hammerite that hasnt covered it all, looks kinda like robs roof/wheels on his 6n)

Bought this beasty off a a dude on here for a steal of a price

Rev limiter

Also spent a fortune in VW, gotta collect the parts tomorrow :D

However, i was about to spend a fortune in GSF but I've been stopped in my tracks... Hopefully for something very special :D

I shall update with teaser pics if the plan goes ahead.

Rev limiter? GHEY!

Why do you need one?

  • Author

Because i dont wanna kill it?

Believe me, you find yourself hitting the limiter without even realising on track. Id rather hit a limiter than destroy engine internals

And, that very special thing that i said may be happening... is happening :ninja:

try driving a 6 cylinder! The torque doesnt drop off so you hit limiter all time

Looking good tubs 8-)

Lol, it's only an AFH tobes, it'll be fine.

  • Author

Fuck you Max

I know, with my aggressive on track driving style, i NEED that rev limiter

I wouldn't have bought it otherwise

This is probably going to be even more delayed after my latest purchase. But i think, when you see what it is you will forgive me.

You all need to spread the word that my cats are for sale!! Bully people into buying them off me. Ideal offsets for polo... you know its the right thing to do
