I'm on about the starter plate, fuck knows what that gays on about

top work Tobes.

Looking forward to this cruising around, will be running a similar set up to me, engine and susp wise ;)

yeah, thats what the starter one does. covers the flywheel.....

They both cover the fly.

Well, jumped forward then fell backward today

Got this far (a little further actually)

Then ended the day here...

DSC_0171.jpg

lol...

Had it hanging in the bay, then realised i hadn't cut the ARB mount to accommodate the alt pulley/belt..

Didnt want to take the arb/mount off the car and Brett didnt have time to faff with cutting it and dropping it in and out until it was good. So we left it at that

Crane didnt help, as it was being a nice person, 1st off it doesnt lift high enough (had to lift it, put it in a wheel barrow, shorten the straps and go again.

Dropped the car to try and cure the crane not lifting enough, then to realise the feet of the crane wouldnt go under the bloody bumper/arb  Then on top of this, the fucking thing kept going down when we didnt want it to lmao!

So, another attempt shall be made at some point, with a different crane.

However, got the box on, alt lined up correctly and on, all belt covers on.

Savaged the inner wings also, grinded back what i could on the passenger side inner wing where the driveshaft hits. just up to the lip on the chassis leg. And cut out some large chunks so the TCA's dont foul.

Hopefully enough for the lows I'm wanting.

More faffing tomorrow :D

ANYMORE BULLSHIT IN HERE AND IT WILL JUST GET DELETED

OR I'LL GET BORED AND HAVE IT LOCKED

looking good mate! - proper balls you have using that crane on grass! and shorten the strap to get the engine higher!

some progress here dood! polo show may i dare say?

Good stuff - keep it coming!

looking good, shame about the little hold baack, but life happens. keep it up

haha yep, using it on grass was adding to the annoyingness of the crane.

Even tho i got so far then had to stop without it going in, i still progressed. One thing to sort and and its good to go.

Next attempt will see tarmac, not grass and a crane that can lift higher than i'd ever need to

Might be a few weeks yet until i have a 2nd attempt. I'm taking advantage and doing some other things i wasnt going to bother with.

Needs new engine mount rubbers tbh, well gearbox mounts. It has a new engine mount rubber, think I'm going to swap the upper box mount for another OEM rubber, and the rear/lower one for a poly item. As that's where all the movement seems to come from.

Wont be done for poloshow.. but thats just because i cant afford to have it done by then :(

Exhaust is gunna be expensive :( however, it will be perfect :)

Everything I read about engine swaps is I need to modify more things haha

Why did you have to put the engine back in the garage to grind the mount? It takes 2 seconds dude

Facepalm. lock this shit already. a 5 minute tickle with the grinder that YOU could of done (its preety obvious how much you take off) and still nothing. the smallest of issues causes a holt to a job.

hahahaha.

To be fair toby- i had this problem when i forgot id fitted toothed belts to the eaton- i undone the 2 19mm bolts and the 2 13mm bolts, removed the bracket and had ground it down and reinstalled it in less then 10minutes while the engine was almost touching it. i installed the eaton G motor using 2 trolley jacks, a block of wood, 2 axle stands and a justin timberlake cd on my own! (wouldnt want my mates to hear me listening to it)

you need to hit this shit hard and dont let it beat you- your the boss!

Riot_Like_A_Boss.jpg

justin timberlake cd, haha you ledgend

Thats probably the best looking AFH i've seen yet.

I did mine with the engine fitted, with the alt off I could just get in with the grinder to take out what I needed and then it was just a case of trying the alt on to see of more needed to come out rather than having to pull the engine in and out.

why have you got every thing bolted to the engine? After fitting a 4 branch with the engine fitted I can see why you would want that to be on before fitting but the alt being on will make it a pig to fit as it makes it much harder to swing the engine around in the bay

Just to add I'm not having a dig, but trying to give you some advice on how to make your life a little easier

lol tbh i probably could have done it, but i was getting pissed off with it. I was also far too hot, it was killing me.

I dont work well when I'm angry, things tend to break or go more wrong. So i made the decision to pack up and start fresh another day.

As annoying as it is, i think i did right...

I was thinking of dans MK1 when fitting the engine i think. To get the alt belt off.. the engine has to come out

Is it not a bit of a pig to get the alt on and off in place anyway? I always remember having problems getting the alt on and off when in the bay. I also fitted the GT with the alt on with no problems what so ever?

And exactly, its been over a year, whats another few weeks

Engine could have gone in yesterday or in another months time, it wont get the car done any sooner or later.... Either way its going nowhere until i can afford the exhaust.

Getting the alt on and off my mk2 is a pig but only because there's no room in front of the engine, your bay is much longer so should be a piece of piss to get in and out. The belt is a tight squeeze to get between the bottom pulley and the chassis leg but once its on you don't need to take it off again if adjusting the arb mount (just pull it down from underneath so its out the way then when your done pull it back up).

When trying to fit the engine with the alt iirc the pulley kept twatting the chassis leg while trying to twist it into position. I know I had to take it off for some reason to fit the engine anyway

And exactly, its been over a year, whats another few weeks

my afh was in and running in 2 days ;)

to be fair though, tobys bay will look a hell of a lot nicer than mine when it is done 8-)

Thats probably the best looking AFH i've seen yet.

 The sarcasm is strong in this one.....

 shhh!

Bay wont be anything special. I'll try and make it as tidy as possible though :) Not as colourful as the last time though.

One bonus, last insurance payment went out this month. Meaning I'm £140 better off a month until i renew :D

Locked by me- far too much crap being posted in this build thread now.

Toby- I will transfer all your pictures/build posts into a new thread.

Please can everyone stop posting shite in these, if you want to abuse each other, use PM!

Edit (MattLoaf): Reopened so Tobes can get correct quote information for his new thread, will close again when he is done. Please do not post here.
