yes, i scorched the arch unfortunately on the 195/45 tyres i ran to inter last year, and the paint has just started to lift :(

they need pulling more anyway so i can rock 9j out back and lower it more...bodyshop in the new year

did some test fitting with all sorts of spacing and with the narrow tyre wall i should get them sitting nice and flush

35mm i got from big boys toys they were 80 i think

images are back on for time being while i refurbe the 16s

got busy with the fizzy tonight!

armed with a brew and a spline tool for the rims in question, i broke out the mighty halfords pro socket set and in all fairness made real light work of the bolts! split them in about 20mins. i had a real feeling i was gonna struggle with a few, as the lacquer peel was bad on 2 especially (fronts)

the centres are still in excellent condition and it seems a shame to strip them back but i want to paint the whole rim in one colour lip and centre... just need to decide which!

few questions though regards prep for paint....would i be best to simply sand back the lacquer and the centres to paint or strip it completely with nitromors? i know the centres are gonna be fiddly and wondered how strong the original coating would be thats all...any advice welcomed...prob gonna rattle can them unless i can nip into my mates body shop and use his gun

I am gonna get the tyres whipped off tomorrow with some luck as nitromors wont be too nice on tyres if this is the route i take!

the shots up close are of the worst lip, the rest have slight spidering and one is still pretty mint!

once i get the tyres off i can begin prep for paint, so would look forward to some input of the above!

Asked the same question at college, tutor told my it's ok to just get a key on the old paint and then spray, but there's a chance (big one) of it oxidising underneath (the old paint) and just flaking off not long after you have sprayed them.

the spoiler is standard on valvers mate and the chrome door catches come off a mk5 polo iirc.

I used to drive around with the 15 inch ones (Polo GTI) RS 772's on my mk4, with a 60mm widening (30mm spacers) on the back, and 50mm widening (25mm spacers) up front. A lot more poking compared to the standard look, but still tucked in needly with my airride. Unfortunately I only have pictures from before I rolled my rear-arches, so I couldn't let the airride drop as much as after rolling them. Still som epictures with the 30mm spacer on 15's on the back, just so that you can get an image on how it will look:
