Mazda Rx7 Type R2

Featured Replies

OK I decided that I need to buy a house now and have to get rid of toys.

This is a RX7 Type R2 it comes with rear bins instead of the useless rear seats and has twin oil coolers. The car has a full genuine MAZDASPEED GTC body kit (this is very very rare! I think I have only seen a couple with this kit) it has been re-sprayed last October in RX8 Nemesis pearl Blue. Its very eye catching and in my opinion the sexiest car you can buy from Japan.

I have owned it for two years now and spent lots and lots of money on getting it to how it looks now. It started off as a daily but then after 6 months of owner ship it has been a weekend toy. Its never broken down apart from that time a slave cylinder on the clutch went but that is an item which wears out on any car and was replaced.

Car is currently SORN as the tax ran out. MOT is due but I will stick a new ticket on prior to the sale so the car will come with 12 months MOT. The car is showing 113000 KMS and is still limited to 112mph.

I had the engine compression tested by WGT (with the proper Rotary engine tester!) showing a typical brand new engine’s compression roughly two years ago. I have since done 10K miles and the car still runs great, starts hot or cold and doesnt lose any water. Turbos engage when they should and holds boost fine over both turbos.

The car is maintained by me (i know what I'm doing this is my third rx7!) and the chief mechanic at Jaguar in Doncaster partly because it’s too far to travel all the way to my nearest specialist for simple maintenance and I dont trust garages!

The car is still running standard boost on the stock turbo’s and the standard ECU. As it runs so sweet I have never felt the need to spoil the reliability and go for more power. It goes like the clappers as it is! It’s capable of 4.9 second 0-60mph, and with it’s fantastic handling and looks makes for an awesome car to drive.

Insurance is dirt cheap on a stock engine Rx7. I only pay 450 a year and I’m 26 with three years no claims. No one will insure you on a single turbo unless you’re over 30 and a virgin. So good luck getting insured if you’re looking at a single turbo which engine will last for half as long as a stock car.

has it not got a price?

Theres a big clue in the topic heading mate. But in case you missed it I'm looking for around 7k.

Its booked in for an MOT at the end of the month then its getting compression tested (with a proper rotary engine tester) i expect it to be really good still as this engine has done about 12K since it last got tested (shortly after it was rebuilt) and its been well looked after.

other random facts about rx7's

they rev to 8.5K

they weigh 1250kgs

Type R2 are lightweight hardcore version of the rx7 and comes without a rear wash wipe and stiffer suspension and no sunroof and stock produces 265hp although mine is a little more with the HKS twin mushroom filters and more free flowing exhaust / cat etc.

They have four pot brake calipers as standard

double alloy wish bone front and rear and fully adjustable geometry

Engine only contains three internal moving parts and is a doddle to rebuild yourself (lots of my mates have rebuilt thier own engine)

Rear LSD for easy power drifting

Alloy bonnet as standard.

Prefect 50/50 weight distribution

It gets 29mpg on a motorway run - much less in town though.

its a twin rotor with two turbos that operate sequentially. one boosts from 1500rpm to 4500 then the second turbo kicks in till the redline.

Mazda are the only japanese manufacturer to ever win LE MANS. The rotary engine was then banned afterwards. the car was a 787B powered by a 4 rotor wankel engine!

theres loads of more geeky facts about these cars, but my point is they arn't just a pretty face.

I bought this car as i didn't see the point in spending 10k on a eurobox that wouldnt come close to the way this looks / handles / goes. I in fact sold my immaculate 02 Bora TDI sport so i could by this car and bought a mk2 ranger as a daily! If you are worried about fuel I'm also selling a polo tdi - both cars for 9k!
