rear tailgate lock on 9n polo

Hello Hopefully somebody out there can tell me how to fix this fault the tailgate on my polo will not open unless the key is used. I think the solinoid in it has died a death, hence the need now to take the key out of the ignition and to use it in the boot lock. any ideas please advise.
