  • Passed its MOT then drove 50 miles to Curbrough, survived a small excursion sideways in the grass, then drove home.

the Emerald I am going to run requires a TPS [can be made to to work without I think but its major hassle].

Easiest way round this is to use a GT Throttle body as it has a throttle potentiometer from factory. G40 throttle bodies only have idle/full throttle switch.

The GT TB has no provision for wasting boost once the butterfly closes. On the G40 there is a butterfly to run the boost return. If I didn't plum in a dump valve then the charger will just be building up pressure from the outlet to the TB, resulting in a failure somewhere.

Not really an update, spent the day sanding. Also took some measurements for a new silicone hose I need to fit the filter

I have a boost return valve partially modded for a GT throttle body. Needs a bit more work - I was going to use it on mine with a G-lader back in the day, but never got it finished. PM me if you're interested.

Can you run a GT Throttle body on a normal G40 so you can use a dump valve then?

You wouldn't want/need to...only reason he was thinking of doing it was so he could run Emerald, not so he could have a dump valve.

Finished sanding the primer and found out Morellis were closed on saturday :?

I swapped an 8th for Mk2 Golf Smoothed Plinth at edition last summer so decided to make that fit. Some poking, some jigging and abit of filing and we were good to go.

24052008985.jpg

Washed the Mk2 ready to be put away for a while then decided to carry on playing with the G. Spent about 1 hour making all the bolt/screw heads face the same way. Then mixed up the perfect concentration of screen wash [about 10% water] so its the same colour as the blue silicone hoses. Also fitted a new silicone joiner on the throttle body as the original wasn't the same colour.

Re-routed some wires and ordered more parts from the stealers. I raided the parts room at my old work the other day and couldn't find enough of 'the same' hose clamps so ordered so ordered 10 of these bad boys.

Any piccys of the mk2 loon before its going to bed for a bit ?

Work is coming along well !

Well what can i say, the project hasn't quite gone to plan.

My fuck up on the painting cost me a few weeks. As a result the cage didn't go in and I began to assemble the car with the floor still in Grey primer.

Looks far from mint but I am just going to enjoy driving it for now. Will sort the cage out another day.

First off was running my battery cable to the rear.

Need to tidy the wires etc but thats where it is for the moment. I am not convinced I like it there but will do for now.

Still need to cage it, Seat, harness, dashboard, Emerald, Remap

Well what a fucking weekend.

During my lunch break I sorted out my insurance £1421 every single mod declared and strolled to the dealers and spent about £300 on parts to rebuild my old GT G40. Every single nut, bolt and gasket VAG.

Was destined to drive the car on Saturday WHATEVER it took.

Got home from work on Friday at about 6 and went straight into the garage.

Rotor Arm

Dizzy Cap

Plugs

Leads

Plugs

Shifter Rod Selector Seal [props to spaniel for that one]

Seat, Harness

Secured the clocks, boost gauge, AFR Gauge, Lights etc

All the door seals, boot seals

Oil and filter [not oem but will explain later]

All of that was done by about 12 midnight. Thought driving then was probably not the wisest of ideas so retired for the night.

Due to the design of the Eaton outlet a stock G40 oil filter is too deep so you cant get it on. Smallest I had previously found was still too deep so I cut the nut off the end. After much messing around about 3 weeks ago I found a super stubby filter, and bought about 10.

Doesnt sound like much but every little helps

Looking a little more car like

Gave the intercooler a quick lick of paint as I plan on upsetting a few folks in the near future

Still want to ditch these chavvy plates but looks like I got bigger issues

Bought these swanky new OMP seats but ended up putting them in the Golf  . Will update the thread in abit

310520081013.jpg

Saturday came and off I went, happily as Larry driving the day away. Generally being an annoyance to people's lives as I got to grips with driving a paddle clutch. Stalled it a few times, nearly scared a cyclist half to death revving up to try and avoid a 3rd stall in a row

After about 3 hours I thought I would take her onto the motorway to stretch its legs. Cruised at 50, all fine, and 60. Then got to 70 and had some juddering :| . Reminiscent of Throttle Pot issues on my old GT . I got all paranoid about fuel starvation and killing the engine so I pulled over. Tried to turn it over and wouldn't fire. Sparking fine and current to the injectors so i assumed its a fuel issue.

Rang the AA to tow me home.......... :tear: I felt so cheap and useless

Probably the best 6k and 9 months I ever spent

Right well up bright and early this morning to fix the slag.

Just pulls like nothing I ever driven before. From cruising off boost at just under 3k then bang, once that butterfly closes it just goes fucking insane. Squealing like a pig mid-rape it just goes and goes until I pussy out. Gets to 110 and shows no sign of wanting to stop 8-)

Cant wait till I fit emerald and get it mapped 8-)

Replaced every single fuel clip on the car, cleaned all the parts, new fuel filter [the problem] and then blew all the fuel lines out with the air line. Problem Solved. Was dead chuffed and spent half a tank in petrol driving about.

Would be rude not to clean up the filter bracket and put a new nut and bolt

Only a temporary till my 135ltr/hour fuel pump turns up

010620081030.jpg

Still haven't got round to making my dashboard so some cable ties do the job

And ever since Saf when up in flames I been abit paranoid so I fitted a fire extinguisher. Need to buy a proper one linking in to bay and the cabin for the Golf so will just buy 2. Looks chavy as hell but form over function

monster 8-)

glad you got it sorted

Keeping up the tempo back to the old beast I went.

Tracking and castor was way out so I opened up Stella Garages again.

Nothing really to report in terms of the project.

For anybody who was interested we set the wheelbase to 234.5cm. Shame its all too wet to test the car properly but feels alot more composed.

2345.5cm how low is the car with that wheel base...any other figures for your suspension set up?

That is cool!! My 1 litre bucket of shit is in the middle of a rebuild (cause I failed the MOT) so I've been watching closely!! going for Mercedes Benz Arctic White cause its pretty easy colour to paint in. You colour coding the interior or respraying the car?

Your a big gay .. doing everything properly ..

What i like to see .. 8-)
