Bike carb conversion... short video added

Featured Replies

Driving it to college this morning though (thats where i am now...:oops: ) in the rain on greasy roads in rush hour was a 'challenge' to say the least. Pulling away with involuntary wheelspin everytime kinda gets a bit embarassing when you're just moving a few feet in a traffic jam. had to resort to second gear pull aways

You thought about altering the cam ratio on the throttle cable? Bike carbs and TBs have very sharp ramp angles as they open, you really don't want that on a car engine - hence your issues with pulling away. We never changed it on Yoof's ITB'd GT, but it needed it. Sounds like you've got the tools and skills to do it easily enough too!

Jesus Christ :shock::lol:

Just bought some carbs :-)

Looking for a 1.6 engine tomorrow.!

haha awesome. you know it makes sense!

its booked for a rolling road session on saturday. gonna have to leave volksfest for a bit to get it done, but luckily its just over the road! haha

dunno wether i'll film it or not tho :?

Yeah film it may as well! You hoping for better mpg after the dyno at all?

Only thing really putting me off at the moment...

sweet dude! really liek that sound of it! wish i got a mk2 when i had the chance and carbed that up,got dads darag carbs here, could shove them on somehting with some lairy mods :p :ninja:

they're not gonna do anythin to the car on the dyno run, other than check the timing. Although i'll get a graph of air/fuel which i can then speak to Bogg Bros about and they'll suggest optimum jet size.

And yeah, the fuel economy is shite :( on a run up the m/way i can get 24-25mpgs, but with a heavy foot and on short runs it'll drop to around 12-15 :(

I think I'm not going to go down the bike carb route if thats the case.

GT injection on the 1.6 returns 35 - 40mpg, although i guess with less power but still 110bhp isnt bad.

I'm getting 40 miles to a tenner these days on twin webers, which aint TOO bad considering the modifications. I was getting shite economy before due to a fuel float which had absorbed petrol (probably damage) and was chucking petrol into the car.

But every drop/penny is worth it on a carb'd car - just so sweet.

Carbs are where its at but fuel cost at the moment makes me sick, £1.14 this morning in Nottingham.

That video is mental!! haha though why is the handbrake light coming on?

what are bikes carbs? hows it done? could it be done to a 1.4 8v 6n?

That video is mental!! haha though why is the handbrake light coming on?

the handbrake light was coming on randomly due to a dodgy switch down at the lever :? i've 'sorted' it now by making the switch remain the in the 'off' state. i know if the handbrake is on... i dont need a light

its good fun! and yeah, fuel is pricey buts its worth it... what i love is how tame it is at low rpm's, i can pootle around at 15-20mph in 4th and its dead quite... then i drop it down and hit the loud pedal and all hell breaks loose!

ah, the dude who works with Ross... with the bike carbs. If so, i was thinkin about your running problem, and discussing it with my brother and dad, we think it may be coil related. Cant think why the carbs would be so affected by the heat, it sounds more like an ignition issue, or possibly head related? has it recently been rebuilt, new gasket etc, and it wasn't warped at all?

that offer of the redtop motor still on btw? i was already half way drunk when we were talking about that

sorry mate, had a lot of pm's recently regarding the car and the carb conversion etc. i may have missed yours. I'll have a looky now! soz!

jesus christ at the video....wheelspin much!?!?!

jesus christ at the video....wheelspin much!?!?!

yeah just a tad! its putting out 120lb/ft of torque at 3000rpm so its happy to spin the wheels up  thats on good rubber too, eagle F1s but it only weighs about 680kgs!

proving a little hard to sell it however :( had a couple people come and have a look, but i think they were actaully scared by it! no joke :lol::oops:

LOL

I think you should port the head and get it to 120bhp + lol

ye i was thinkin coil related, but i've changed it, no difference, plus apprently coils will just die. its running MSD ignition which works well and has no hook up on temperature, grr!! yep brand new head, was skimmed, pasted in valves etc. seems to get good compression. its straight as a die, new gaskets everywhere, metal H/G etc.

the smell of fuel etc just makes me think its the carbs, is throwing way to much in, people came up to me when i had it runnin sayin ye there over fuelling bad from the smell of unburnt fuel lol, few peeps said that the emulsion tubes wear after years of use, the needles batter away at them and their diameter i guess gets larger, throwin more fuel past the needles when you try and rev.

i've bought some R1 carbs for silly dollar ( was desperate lol) and a starter so should be with me before the weekend, ideal's!!

and the red top, lol ye i was the same geez, been on the cider for way to long haha! full redtop, 99k on it, elecky prob.

not lookin silly dollar if you giv us a hand pullin it out.

i found a bog bro's write up in PDF on chuckin R1 carbs on an XE, so will just follow that. woo!
