My mates Lupo is funny, the springs fall out of that when you jack it up.

Tell him to give it some,next time he goes over a hump-backed bridge. He'll only do that once. I've just swapped the 60mm springs on a mates 306 GTi-6 for some 40mm items. It had standard dampers. Without enough preload to hold the assembly together,the bearing assembly and spring plate had slipped out,resulting in considerable damage to the top mount and spring seat. He's got some steering,now.

Well I've never cut springs on any of my cars

so how can you give advice on them? i've never driven a car with nitrous fitted, so would you take advice from me about that?

once again the i've been told by a friend of a cousin that heard it from his step brothers sister brigade are out in force

i've got chopped springs on my mk3 and apart from being a bit bouncy i have never had a problem with it, in fact it rides the same as when i had my mk2 wound all the way down on coil overs and shit loads of people on here have done that, and they ain't dead from how there car rides

A mate of mine tried the cutting springs method nothing but trouble they used to pop out of place from time to time and i've never been in a car with so much roll you'd take a corner and up on the wrong side of the road haha

i've done it on loads of cars no probs so far but i suppose it depends on how much you take off!! a coil or two is a waste of time! do it the proper way take all 4 springs off throw 3 away split the remaining spring into 4 refit then phone gsf lol :-D

It would be wonder if he could get over a hump-backed bridge without bottoming out

anyway cutting springs isnt chav, it does ruin your ride handling if you go excessive but most people arent bothered about that if they are comtemplating cutting springs anyway.

walshes nova is a scary lil beast on the chopped springs but so was the beige hustler and that was just wound all the way down on coilies.

i wouldnt cut my own springs or feel happy caning around a car that had them on but fuck it for a cheap fix do it, just dont expect to be ayrton senna when its done (well you could if your planning on smashing into a wall)

All in all buy some they aint that expensive

It depends how much you cut off.

If you're just taking an inch or 2 off the end of the spring, then it will lower the car a bit, without really making it more dangerous, but if you're on about cutting entire coils off the spring, then yes, it is dangerous.

I have done it in the past, but I'd not do it again, as it doesn't exactly improve the handling.

i ran -40 spring with a coil cut of for about 6 months on my jetta and was fine and went through a mot (they even said oh the springs have been cut.....thats fine)

Spring and shock kit.

Dead cheap.

I don't reckon its worth the hassle of going through the process of cuttin' em to be honest, you can be on your arse for £120, with no knocking and worries.
