look I am well 'ard. And this is coming from somebody who used to get the pissed riped out of me for driving like a granny. I had the fastest car in my 6th form, and that was a proven fact.

Yet I wasn't the one racing around the block crashing into trees, walls, bingo halls [as if you cant fucking see it] and lamposts. The day a girl passed her test she loaded her car up and went 'croooozing. Mounted the kurb outside a school and knocked over a lamp-post. How we chuckled, especially when I put the lampost in the common room, but she is lucky not to have killed soembody.

Last laugh comes when I am driving an Eaton g40 and they are facing £2k+ quotes on 1.0 or getting the bus.

i think a no passenger rule would be a good idea for your 1st year of driving

would be a bummer for 1st timers, but tbh every crash I've ever been a passenger in has had 2/3 passengers more often than not egging them on. not gona say i didnt use to do this, coz i used to be a right nob in college etc but after a while i spend the majority of my time asking people to slow down now lol

Agreed, it's the attitude that needs sorting first, but I fully agree with re-testing of the aged. This is for everyone, not just the young. I didn't bother driving 'till I was 25, and that was because I had kids on the way, more of a neccessity than anything else, but wish i'd have done it earlier. I don't drive like a complate t**t, but have been known to exceed the speed limit, but this is ONLY where it is safer to do so ie. quiet M-Ways and dual carriageways. I will never speed in a built-up area, or go lapping round town, 'cos you're more likely to draw attention to other knobs who will want to race you, and get noticed by the feds. Granted, the fact that I have children has put a more self-preserving manner into my driving, but why should having kids make a difference to anyone? If you don't drive like a dick and pay attention to what you're doing, then there wont be a problem.

Like GiorgioGT, I drive a Corrado VR6 as well as the mk2 'loon, and together the insurance policies add up to £370 fully comp for myself and my partner (that's for the both of us, not each).

70 year old and a 90 year old in collision round my town last week, most of them haven't got a fookin clue what day of the week or what county they are in when they get behing the wheel, i've lost count the amount of times these old jokers have been the real causes of accidents in this country, they encourage overtaking because of the fact that they all drive soooo slowly, and swerve all over the bloody road, so nobody wants to stay behind them. This is what usually happens, then are un-aware that the accident has occured (cos they never use their mirrors), so drive off content at what a nice day it is. RE-TEST the old, don't punish the young people who may need to get around.

i personally think the test age should be 21 reasons being by that age most people have grown up enough to act responsible, they have got rid of their nobby mates, the nobby ones have no one to show off to as nobody wants anything to do with them, most have been out of education and in the real world to understand the value of keeping a job/money/posessions and dont want to lose any of them, the ones still in education are clever enough to know this anyway which is why they are still there to get more.

I think its more to do with the fact that its a new thing to them and it holds a certain novelty value. Once you've been driving for a while the novelty of just aimlessly driving wears off.

theyve been saying the age will change for ages!! personally i think its silly at 18 you can legally drink and can drive..... 2 things that dont mix! then again 17 is very young to drive, should be like aus where they are required to learn for a year or a set amount of hours before taking their test!!

what! sooner or latter you are going to be able to both legally, what does it matter if one is a year before the other or at the same age limit.

And any way i don't know ANYONE that waited untill they were 18 to drink. Most kids drink and smoke at the age of 14 these days.

One of them died, BTW. Pulling out onto a Dual-carriageway into traffic. I guess they didn't even see each other.

They could put the irish law in where you can only go a certain speed for the first year. I dont care if it goes up! lol

But I've never driven like a nob, i started out in a beetle.....which in a way was good for me as i think starting in a corsa or something wouldve made me want to see how fast it would go etc. The bug i was happy to plod along Once i got the mk3 I wasnt interested in going really fast, so now i just go

But i agree something needs to be done, a lad at my college went out the day he passed his test, 5 in the car and wrote it off. No-one was hrt but it couldve been much worse.

I think there are 2 types of people. Those who drive because they have to, and those who just have to drive. I am of the latter. I enjoy driving, and wouldn't think twice about going on a 500 mile journey down south, the only problem is cash. I enjoy my drive to work, and there isn't a better hangover cure than a drive with the window open (OK, maybe I lied there )

Then you get people who think having to drive is a chore.
