well got a few phone calls from friends today and as well as being given my old shell back, someones donating me a complete 1.8 gti engine and gearbox and another mate who aint spanner friendly said i cant lend a hand but i can sort you out some cash and put 50 quid towards the new project fund.

might have some door cards lined up for beenatoo. engine wise i still need to get hold of a master cylinder and servo, braided fuel lines, fuel pump and accumulator but muchos respect to everyone whos offered help in any way shape or form, i love you all :)

and yeeeeeeh boy rtts, blaaaaaaaaah i wanted to destroy the engnie on teh way back from rtts but as micheal cain says your only meant to blow the bloody conrod out.

Whats going on?!, in the space of 2 weeks 2 sound as fuck people have had a Physcological battering with their form of independence/transport being visiously taken from them life can be a right kick in the bollocks

Innit, at least we are both ok (painkillers for the win here! ) and what has happened has really shown people's true colours that we are a fuckin strong bunch of mates at end of t'day...I can't wait to be well enough to work on the cars again and you know I'll be up for helping with beena safbot. I think a new paintjob courtesy of pirate modding skillz might be in order. :)

I got a mk3 GT polo fuel pump and accumulator, not sure if it'd work, but its yours if you want it

tom - cheers for the offer, I'm not sure it would be able to pump enough pressure for a k-jet system but if you have a part number i can check it out

ste - i know mate, tell me about it!!! quite a few people have sparked up interest in the back panel, I'm thinking of keeping it for myself if I'm allowed to cut it out so i can have the muppet live on in some way but tell him to get in touch :)

and aye if it was your own car youd be pissed but then realise that it gets you nowhere so you just have to keep on trucking man, its like walshies quote about life gi'ing you a beating and you just taking them in your stride.

everything happens for a reason, bet it happen this way than flying down the motorway with a friend in the car as the flames would be swept under the car possibly setting the tank alight and causing a high speed fireball, luckily it didnt and luckily i decided to check out the dodgy idling situation as i weighed it up before going out onto the major junction off my road, either get on the dual carrigeway and drive the 5 mins to the mot station or go straight over the junction into the local car park check it out there. thank christ i went with my better judgement. my heart sank when i saw the flames and realised the invenability of my situation. i darted across the main road as my mate who owns a mk1 golf lives on the corner in a vain attempt to douse the flames with a bucket of water but i would imagine being in an open area with the bonnet and door open the wind would have accelerated it pretty quickly but even so there was no way to stop that situation bar me having a fire extinguisher to hand which i was going to buy on the way back from the mot station.

nevermind tho I'm still here, my third time with near death experiences with fire and the first time it involved a car. fubarring bollox tho

I don't really post much on here, I'm more of a reader. Your build thread was one of the coolest I've come across and was read from the first post all the way to the end. I'm not mechanically minded by a long way and have massive respect for what you accomplished in such a short period of time. Then I come across this thread...gutted is an understatement.

My heart goes out to you in sympathy. At least you're alright pal, cars can be repaired and replaced whilst people can't. Lets just hope it's onto bigger and better things for you. You didn't deserve what happened...

The pictures on page one of this thread made me feel sick, really feeling for you man. Probably the biggest kick in the bollox after spending so much time / effort / money on it. Gutted for you, best get on and build an even better one now chap. Not much in the way of golf bits to offer you unfortunately, all my stuff is Mk1 Polo / Derby related.

been lucky with my current mk1, but had 2 fairly major fuel leaks on the last one.........neither caught light though

I cant believe the first i heard of this was at all types, not being online that much at the mo, was such a shock! I thought, when i was told, that there would of been a few flames in the engine bay and you would just need to replace the engine, but when you showed me a pic i couldn't believe it

Big respect for being brave a taking pics, i would of been too much of a mess crying to do that. Think i'll go looking for a fire extinguisher tomorrow, wouldn't know what to do with myself if that ever happened to Goldie
