insurance companies are fucking wankers, I've been offered 700 quid for the car which is pitiful, i have to pay 100 pounds excess plus 170 quid odd for the rest of the years premium and to add insult to injury the muppet will be getting crushed regardless of outcome which means my coilovers, 4 branch manifold and small light panel shall be no longer :(

does anyone know what the deal is with cat a write offs, there must be a way i can get the rear panel back, arrrrrrrrgh.

would have been economically viable not to have put it thru the insurance and just took the parts off the shell and weighed it in for scrap metal.

fucking gay day indeed

surely if you still own it, can you not request that there are some parts you'd like to salvage?

dont the insurance company technicly own it now?

Cat A = crushed regardless I'm afraid

Although. I'm obviously not suggesting you do this, but do you have any idea where the yard it's being kept is? :unibrow:

haha I've been on the case and found out where the muppet is, the guys were pretty sound there and said i should just keep on phoning in every couple of days cos when they have the go ahead from the insurance they will buy it off them and i should be able to buy it off the salvage yard for a reduced rate.

was like playing detective mwahahaha

More silver lining. Can't wait to see the Phoenix that rises from the flames.

don't tell them what's on the car!!!!!!! salvage company's can be wankers if they know how much the stuff on its worth!!!

but i hope you get it back! fingers crossed!!!

dude, just take your parts off before the car goes to be crushed. are you sure the coils wont be wrecked from the heat

when you next insure a car, make sure u, tell them that u want salvage retainment i think its called, my dad did this to his classic mini, spent about £8k on it, went down the road, and some cock sucker in a chavved up nova wrote it off, and dad paid £300 back to buy salvage, and kept the turbo lump and interior was all ok, was a large side impact and rolled onto roof, so was a CAT B

tht is real bad luck mate, but if u offer the salvage guys a nice back hander they will let u rip the bits off be4 they crush it, gd luck!

To kiBBle!

Salvage retention would make no odds in this case. Cat A write off means the car has to be crushed no matter what by law. The only way around it is getting friendly with the salvage yard as I suggested.

Have only just logged on and seen this!!

Saf that sucks man!

I know what it is like to see your own car go up in flames! I always carry a fire extinguisher now but tbh it is pretty pointless, my car went up in about 10 seconds, in that time i barely had time to get out and open the bonnet, then flames jump out at your face and you know youre screwed! Youre lucky it only took the fire brigade 10 mins to get there, it took them 25 to get to mine, by then there was nothing left but a charred shell melted into the road.

Carry a decent sized powder one, the £20 ones are too small to have any effective use.

A guy i know saved his car on the motorway with an extinguisher the other day and another guy who had a fire on his skyline at silverstone a few weeks ago was only 'saved' by the fire crew otherwise his car would have been a goner too!

It is always when the cars are coming together that the worst happens!! i spent 7k on my polo in a year getting all the engine and chassis bits done and collecting all the body bits to make it a completely different and mental car but then a wheel comes off when driving wrecking the chassis.

Its fate i suppose, but i moved on to bigger and better things and you clearly are too! Good luck with it mate! Come back bigger and better!

R.I.P. muppet.

fook chris didnt know a wheel came off the G, so thats why you packed it all in :( shame as i really liked watching the progress of that one, but alas your skyline will be summat else!

well got the coilovers, 4 branch, brakes off the other day, stripped the coilies down, will need new rubbers all round but the shocks are absolutely sound, smoke damaged more than anything else as the fire wasnt really concentrated in the arches.

going back tomorrow morning to cut out the rear panel and the drivers rear qtr (for my mate whos rebuilding his mk1)

been doing a few things this week, been prepping and painting the ozs, got some bits on beena done, seats, grille, steering wheel, lights, rear arb today.

also spent a while sifiting thru my spare room to pull out all the bits i need for the rebuild.
