i wouldnt describe uno turbos as fast, but they are a nippy little rag about which are pretty fun. as has previously been stated the engines are relitively sound unless you up the boost too much. the shells are terrible and unfortunately alot have been repaired my monkeys so expect a serious amount of rusty paper thin metal flaking off at the sight of a screwdriver haha

put it on classic insurance, shouldnt cost alot and you dont need any no claims :-D

I used to own a Mk2. I would recommend buying as they are an extremely good laugh. Problem is, because they are rare you cant have the luxury of picking and choosing a good one. 99% will have rust or have rust repaired at some point. This is why i got rid of mine in the end. The shell was just eating itself and i couldnt be bothered to re-shell.

The engines are genuinely bulletproof though, once i had a rad pipe kink, and no water was getting round the engine. Was doing speed on the motorway before i realised guage was at 130C and i had been running it for about 15 mins. Stopped the engine with steam pouring off it. Once it had cooled down and i fixed the pipe, it ran perfectly fine again. No head gasket/piston problems or anything. Most other cars I've driven would have exploded by then.

Cheapest insurance for a turbo as well. group 10 for Mk1 and 11 for Mk2. And it would simply decimate most cars people own on this forum.

Know this though- you will get rust problems and you will have to fix it alot (Hence FIAT - Fix It Again Tomorrow) but itll be a bloody good laugh while it lasts.

I can back up the above statement.

I owned a mk1 turbo for a short while. She was completely standard except a couple of engine tweeks.

Pitty was she looked mint from the outside - BUT if you got underneath it and looked up, you could see the bottom of the front seats and if you looked under the rear arches you could see what was in the boot.. the rust is really bad on uno's. Trust me!! Good job i only bought it for a few hundred and some how sold it for more a year later!!

Yeh THAT uno is modded bigtime but impressive from a 1.4 engine even if the skyline is stock still an unfair race due to skyline having a bigger engine lol Even if you run 1bar on a standard turbo you can beat quite a few things on the road.

Yeh unos CAN rust quite bad depends on where the cars been most of its life, if you find one thats been in the city its entire life which is far away from the coast it will be fine cos its the salt in the moist air that will speed up the rust process.

Mine is solid and the body is galvanised in fact its in even better shape than my newer polo i kid you not, even the MOT guy couldnt believe it LOL

What i like the most is people take the piss cos its a fiat, in fact i hate fiats myself LOL as i've always been a ford and vw fan but not this car cos when i put my foot down and leave them behind it makes me laugh lol

i just wish i had a bog standard sleeper that would be even more fun but you do get some people who appreciate them cos they're so rare these days and its always nice when people notice you drive something abit different to the norm...They only become unreliable when people mod them to stupid levels that the engine wasnt designed for, keep it standard and the engine will probably live longer than the shell as mentioned lolz

sorry mate but thats bull, my mate has one (had it for a good ten years i'd say) and its eating itself away, literally. he took it off the road about 7 years ago to sort some body work issues, and by the time he had sorted that rust more had started in other places, this has gone on for the last 7 years. and we live in the Nuneaton, couldn't get much further from the sea if you tried

it is silly quick tho for what it is.
