engine noob: what does this catch tank do? and where does it go? and i want to stop my car stinking

LOL instead of oil vapour being let into the air(and then drawn in by your heater stinking your car out with oil fumes), it basically turns the vapour into condensed oil, and the idea is that it will catch rather than vapourise

The idea of a catch tank is an MOT-friendly way of removing the recirculation of oil vapour back into the intake of your engine. The catch tank's job is to condense the fumes so that the actual oil content is reduced, and then the catch tank vents the cleaner output into the atmosphere via the small filter which cleans the fumes even more.

The whole idea is to avoid putting oil vapour back into the engine, which is only there because of emission regulations.

If you want to stop your car smelling, use the handbrake to hold the car on a hill.

You can put one anywhere it'll mount and fit properly.

At the moment I've got a 1 litre box tank which is mounted underneath the horn in between the chassis leg and the radiator housing.

The most trouble comes with getting proper pipe fitment - the stub on the crank breather might be 1 inch, but the catch tank might only be 19mm, so you're got to use your noggin a bit to get a fit which isn't bodge. Some kits are great for it, some are downright ARGH.

If carlsberg made catch tanks they would be polished aluminium:

Can i ask where this one was bought from as i could do with one for mine to stop the throttle body caking up with shyte all the time and that one looks perfect!

i know people are probably wonderin why i want one for my 6n2, but its a common problem of the throttle body caking up with shyte due to the crank case breather going back into the air box, so this should come in handy!
