same thing happened to me the first time i changed a thermostat on my GT... realised pretty quickly what was up so no damage there.

Glad the beast is up and running again!

Yeah no damage done as i didnt let it get too hot. The clue was that the fan wasn't kicking in and with the sensor being in the fan it should have been obvious.

Wont make that, I'm in Huddersfield now so miles away :-(

dont worry carver am sat at home 2 wishing my car was working to go 2 :(.....

where did u get you are engines??? the scrappers near the m62?? if do the have loads of polos??? and maybe ther number??

need to get mine sorted asap..

oh and i think you said i could put the aee head on the aex bottom... can i run like that with out a g40 charger??? or will i just have no go.. what ecu should i run? the aee or aex?

I get my engines from Central Motor Salavage in Derby. Which is where I'm from, I'm just at uni in Huddersfield.

I dont think the aex head and bottom end will go, you would be better of just fitting an ABU/AEA/AEE but its only really worth swpping the engine if its going on some good injection, either what i have done or bike carbs.

Or twin 40's/DTML would work well 8-)

yeh, well i just made 98hp and 128ft/lb on my ickle injectors :)

Nice one mate, whats your mods? Is yours an AEE? Nice amount of torque.

i will be i think in the end... think i will take all the bits out of a vag in my local scrappers... been in 3 seperate times 2day lmao!!!

but my lil aex is now alive and now not leaking anything and not hunting 4 revs... and all it took..... a rubber washer around the coolent temp sensor!!! who'd would have ever thought that would do it!! lmao..

I got a bigger throttle body , full head back exhaust with de-cat and the pikey boosted fuel pressure and now runs rich :)

but i did blow my CV boot up :(

I did that once, pisses out without that seal.

Get a GT cam in and you will make 100bhp, then you want to get a mk3 flywheel and gearbox on it and you will be flying.

Hopefully going to get hold of 268/268 or 270/270 Cam as heard GT is not much improvement on AEE, think a good service may help.

The fly wheel is planned along with longer fifth mainly to help MPG but also to improve top end !

I am looking for about 120bhp and 140ft/lb in the end on standard management.

The flywheel will make it rev much better, the GT isn't a massive difference from the AEE but i think it would give you another 2 -3bhp but obviously a 268 or higher would be better.

Have you done any checking on the fueling throughout the rev range? I dont know what cc injectors the AEE has but i would have thought they might be stretched at the top end, even with the higher fuel pressure.

Are you still using the plastic inlet?

I must say I'm impressed at what it made, i need to get mine on the rolling road!

no its pikey tech ( just bashed the fuel pressure reg ) i really need to find some bigger injectors that will work .

yeh still using that lovely manifold. I'm over the moon with the result !! Glad aswell cause i told someone that its quicker then their standard valver !! :D

Just shows the AEE is as tunable as a GT engine but more worth while with the added torque. I'm going to be ordering a 4 branch and i'll be getting a system made up for it, then maybe a 268 cam. Then possibly looking into getting it mapped. That should see 115 - 120bhp :-p

i Reckon that is achievable especially as you have better inlet and bigger injectors.

out of interest how does the manifold inlet diameter compare to the head inlet diameter ??

With the torque think will be as quick as a lightly tuned G40 ??

I used a GT inlet which is the biggest out of the mk3 inlets so its pretty well matched to the head, obviously I'm using the ABU inlet flanges to its ported out to that anyways.

Ema had 113bhp out of hears but i think its in need of a remap at that point as the ECU map carn't cope lol

I dont know how it would compare to a G40, i saw your rolling road graph last night and peak power is alot lower then a G40 so technically it would be quicker as you get more power in shorter revs but that depends how fast a G40 revs up ect ect

A 113bhp 1.6 and a standard G40 would be interesting for sure

i think when you get to 113bhp+ you'll prob be kicking 140ft/lbs so i think it would be 1.6 that would take it ( no Replacement for displacement ).

I think with a Cam you will make 113bhp easily, then a little re-map and you would prob see 120bhp+ & 140-150 ft/lbs.

I am deffinatly going to look into injectors and manifolds. Ideally i wanna keep my throttle body and management !!

It probably wouldn't be too much effort to make an inlet you know. Use the ABU flanges like i did then get some pipes welded to them with a plenum to bolt the throttle body to.

What throttle body are you using? Iv started porting my spare one.,

I'm using a throttle body off a valver which is miles bigger!! i found out that valver injectors fit and they are the same injectors used in the 6N Gti so should be good for 130bhp+.

My mate has a spare AFH so just need to rob him of his injectors and possibly fuel rail.

Where would i get a manifold made though ?? and what about the holes for the injectors ??

.... tinker tinker tinker...... lol...

  • Author

Theres a place near me that are up for doing crazy shit.

Getting the injector holes and the fuel rail to fit would be the hardest bit. Depends how restrictive that inlet is, when you compare it to a GT one its go to be killing 2- 3bhp.

yeh think it would be easier to get a manifold like yours.

I'm going to look on vagcat and see the difference in injector plugs. how much would it be for the same manifold as yours ??

  • Author

Well you need a GT inlet and then an ABU inlet so your already at £35 - £40ish. Then another £120 to get the work done.

will have a look in the week at how restrictive i think it is and if i think its worth the cash !!

  • Author

When i was looking at my AEE inlet it looked quite restrictive, not that bad but the GT inlet goes straight to the ports where as the AEE has a wierd funky spirial thing going on. That said it might not be worth it for you as you want to keep the same ECU.
