Thanks for the very kind comments, should be at the Polo show in this. Unearthing the other Derby to start on a possible restoration over the Winter. It's a later plastic bumper model, complete with salmon red interior and all the CLS trimmings. I'm more attached to this car than the blue one, as it's been mine for 22 years. Plans are to completely strip and rebuild the car, new paint, no chrome and put the original CLS decals back.

1) Are those the original bumpers or did you have to source them and if so where from? I'm thining of getting some mk1 bumpers for my mk2. Saw a pic of the back of a mk2 with mk1 bumpers and it looked pretty cool, but don't know where to get them from (or whether they fit actually). I expect they're pretty pricey.

2) In the next year or two I'm after doing a cream leather conversion of the interior and was wondering where you got yours done. Looks the business. Cream is so classy.

These are original early Derby bumpers, they were a one-year fitment before VW facelifted the car and fitted the square lights and plastic bumpers. You'll notice that the Derby chrome bumpers wrap around the bodywork without plastic end caps (like the early passat and audi 80's). You might have more luck finding mk1 polo chrome bumpers as there are more knocking around. It took me over a year to source the rear bumper alone. Check here for early parts, plus the usual ebay.de site. Pretty sure that the early bumpers will go on the mk2 shell (although you might need to fiddle about with mounting brackets). Expect to pay at least £100 per bumper.

Try MJ interiors (here) for your interior. Don't expect cheap, but you'll get a decent job done for a fair price. They did me proud on mine, and I wouldn't use anyone else to be honest.

I had a feeling it might have been MJ interiors looking at the work. They did a good job! I'll keep you posted. Will probably be a while though. Turning out to be a long-term project. :-)
