Cheers dude, you putting it into a mk2? The fuel pump wiring i think ill be ok with, as giorgio already wired it up to rear of the car for me so i jsut need to splice it into the fuse box, same with the dash loom which i think is going to be the troublesome part.

I also wont have a water temp guage or rev counter due to the early mk1 dash/clocks but its something i can live without, might just fuck off the dash and sell it and just cabletie the GT clocks in place. if I've got no dash it mays the dash loom wiring even easier

fuck knows, it was just the decat system that was on the GT.

Needs a 2nd rubber on the backbox hanger and the clamp from the backbox->midbox section needs loosening and twisting round slightly. Cant wait to see what it looks like with the bumper fitted

well progress has been slow recently, hampered by the lack of a runnign motor to get me back and forth to the units.

Still need to bolt the rear gearbox mount, just needs jacking up from the back now the car is back on all wheels.

Next job is to assess if i can use a mk3 alternator with the gti alternator pulley.

Engine cranes suck dude, way easier to lift block and head in by hand, bolt Gbox on and build it up from there. We did rich's abd conversion in a day. Literally got woken up at 9am and dragged to the scrappy to look for a new bottom end, there was a 1.4 sat by the gate so we had that with zero effort. Got it home and decided not to fuck around waiting for a dry-bumming to hire a crane so just manned up and lifted it straight in!

Looks like you threw out even more of a hero's portion tho safmeister.

Hahaha, Yeh me, char and gio managed to get the gt engine in the crashbot in an evening and that was under the car with no crane! It was the first engine fitting I've done so it gave me the confidence i needed! Id moved the engine before on my own and i knew the jack would make mince meat of the polo so i was set. Plus i had to get the engine in by sunday as I'm being evicted from the unit but luckily I've bagged one 2 doors down woop =]

I've never taken a gearbox off an engine haha and id rather leave it on and untouched by ptnt hands but i had thought about your way before when considering swapping the gti block into the muppet.

Got all the mounts bolted up today w00t

I've got a captive nut for the left bolt just couldnt find it but itll be going on

rebuild inner cvs, clean out and regrease

fit driveshafts

swap tyres onto oz routes

fit new master cylinder & brake pedal

fit new brake lines throughout

refit calipers and discs

check clearance for mk1 golf rad

fit oil catch tank

fit lights, bumpers and grill

thatll keep me busy while i start to dechipher the lupo loom and make my new megasquirt loom up and find someone who can weld me some box section to my recaro mounts and harness mounting point.

also on the agenda for the crashbot

fit 256mm conversion

refit mk1 polo engine loom and use part of the GT engine loom (weve already wired up the fuel pump)

source and fit a new/good used drivers side tie rod arm

drop engine, drill out rounded intermediary pulley bolt and fit new bolts, cambelt and waterpump

Mental. Top job geez! Going to be bad-arse when finito.

i need an engine crane, its decided. this fliping agro bottom pulley bolt is fliping me off and I'm going to have to lift the engine out the bay to attack it with a drill! or just drop it out the bottom but after the pia we had getting the rear gearbox mount lined up i cba arggggggh

anyway stuck the chrome bumpers on the lupolo just to please me after a day of agro!

rear panel and the sides of the rear 1/4 and front wings have been sprayed, I've also noticed a spot of por15 i forgot to get on the front panel, its well annoying me and my por15 has set harder than a mofo

that last shot... WIN!

Love the mk1, i still might have to get a mk2 as a daily if i carry on with the mods on the met like i have been doing

update schmupdate... fuck all has happened on this little beastie in the last month or too bar me pillaging it for parts

anyway next on the job sheet for next month is get a GT rear beam powdercoated and fitted, fit new copper brake lines, fit brakes and driveshafts, modify one engine mount and backing plate slightly, and then get someone to weld me some box section for my seats, then its building up the pedal box time and getting all the wiring in...

thanks man, not much has happened on it of late really as its been too cold and I've been too busy playing with my dailys, I'm still up for swapping it for something interesting, something charged would be nice haha

but i should stop fannying about and just get it done =P

next month buying some 200mm rear drums and building them up on a powdercoated gt rear axle, refitting that with new braided hoses and solid brake lines throughout, refitting the 256mm calipers on the front, then I'm going to build up the pedal box and clutch and hopefuly get someone over to weld in the bucket seat box sections and its a case of piecing that last few bits and pieces in place and then getting the wirign sussed hehe
