Picked this up today, let the fun begin! :-D

I would like to say I'm gonna rebuild the bottom end, but it really depends on my finances at the moment. For now its looking like its going straight in. I'm hoping it will last a few months until i get the new cam, which is when i will hopefully rebuild the bottom end too.

I got the engine on to the back of the boot (just above the bumper) and thought "shit, this is rather heavy, I'm stuck here now", luckily i had someone to call for help :-D

Over due update!

The engine isn't out....yet. Although i now have a crane + stand to start the work.

I gotta give GSF a phone call tomorrow to sort out my order of an abundance of parts (one being the damn drive shaft tool). Then i can whip the engine out.

I bought a set of 13" BBS Mahle from das germany , which are fairly rare and i got them for a pimptastic price. I'm going to have them refurbed like this:

Also bought a OMP Corsica 330mm suede wheel (not my photo):

I'm on the look out for some bucket seats + harnesses and a decent condition G40 exhaust system.

28/09/08 (yes again)

I got a bit confused taking the gearbox off, as i had undone all the bolts and it wasn't budging. Maxeh came round yesterday and swiftly slapped me and told me i had to take the starter motor off. As he was doing that, i stood there looking like i was doing something important.

Next we bagged and taped up the loom ready to degrease and clean the engine bay. It was relieving to find there was no rust or cracks lurking under the grime.

We* then started work on the ABD engine, and set out to remove the head. All i can say about the head is...tightest bolts ever. Many broken fingers later the bolts were out, which led us to a problem. You can't remove the head without taking off either the crank or cam pulley as half of the cam belt cover is behind this and joins the head/bottom end together. Basically work can't continue on the ABD until i somehow get an impact gun, which could be up to 2 weeks as i can't afford to buy/hire one (i also need one for the flywheel bolts).

* I say we, it was all Maxeh. I'm too weak :(

Got home from work today and decided to start on the gearbox. I have to admit I got a bit lazy with the cleaning, but got 95% of the grease and **** off. Masked it all up and painted it silver, I think it looks alright. Also degreased and painted the engine/gearbox mounts, but no piccies!

You dont need an impact gun for the cam sprocket bolt. I usually use a Y shaped tool in the spokes of the sprocket, held by a mate, and a breaker bar to crack it off. Not always been easy, but it has worked everytime and its much cheaper. Cost bugger all from a local motor factors, think its designed for fords but it works fine every time.

True, I got mine off once, with a piece of steel 25mm square box section, with 2 bolts in to engage in the cam pulley, managed to undo it on my own in the end. Use it to hold the pulley still whilst you undo!

A nice surprise coming in from work tonight to find my wheels had been delivered :-D :-D :-D

And even better was the condition of them, which TBH the photos made them look worse. Barely any kerbing and no lacquer peel (just some odd sticker marks). I'll run them how they are for now, and most probably get them refurbed next year after more important things have been taken care of.

Offset is pretty much perfect, fills the arches nicely without being illegal

Well....not updated for a long time, because nothing has been done! Hopefully things will kick off again soon, starting off with a full rebuild of the ABD bottom end (GT head has already been rebuilt + P&P). Once the engine side of things has been taken care of, work will start on the rest of the car, sorting out the suspension, fuel tank, wheels and various things like top mounts and bushes.

I almost gave up this week and decided to sell, but i wuv my polo too much so its getting some more love. Completion date will hopefully still be this year!

u got any pics of the grill with the red vw badge on the car? i was thinking about doing it but it will probably look crap on my car as it is steel blue not red.
