Hello

I will be changing the oil & filter on my car soon, what do you reccommend would be the best oil to use I am currently using Castrol Magnatec 10w 40 Semi Synthetic I've always changed the oil every 5000 miles but have found the magnatec to make the engine sound a little bit tappety when cold the engine runs great with no smoke no oil leaks and uses very little oil between oil changes

Make - VW Polo
Model - 6n2 8v
Year - 2000
Engine size/type - 1.0 with AUC Engine Code currently on 97,400 miles

Everything Stock No mods

Road use only

Many Thanks!

Hi

I would use a 5w-40 synthetic and service it every 10k/annually rather than using a VW long life service schedule.
Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS/CFS NT, Motul Sport/300V, Red Line and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XF Longlife, Fuchs GT1 XTL/Supersyn, Gulf Formula G/ULE, Shell Helix and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives.

hi just brought my daughter a 2002 1.2 9n I was wondering what's the best gearbox oil to use

cheers, Paul

Hi Paul

You need an MTF for the gearbox and the best proven options are the Red Line MTL or Fuchs Sintofluid. The Millers TRX 75w-80, Pentosin MTF and 75w-80, Valvoline and Motul Motylgear are good alternatives.
Cheers

Tim
