53k 1.3 Mark2 Ranger; Tornado Red Squareback, No MOT

Featured Replies

Fraid I'm not gonna be a polo owner much longer, she's failed her MOT and I can't really afford to get her through. I'm selling the car as a whole, albeit MOT fail.

Good Points:

The engine is in fantastic condition with obscenely low mileage for a car this age; only 53k. It still pulls superbly well, with a sound 5-speed gearbox, and starts on the button every time. I wouldn't find it hard to believe that most, if not all the original 55Bhp remains.

As you would expect for a car this age there is the occasional ding and small amounts of rust, mostly around the wheel arches, but for the most part it is in great shape. The paint is still a deep red colour and hasn't faded to pink like most older cars. For someone with the time to repair the MOT faults, it will remain a solid and reliable car for years to come.

Careful drivers can expect to get in the region of 40-45 mpg and the car is insurance group 6.

This car is "Ranger" specification, it comes with alloy wheels, roof bars, a rev meter and the four headlight grill.

Mounted in the boot are some 6x9 speakers and the car will come with a CD player. The previous owner fitted a Sparco aluminium Gear knob, but I have an original leather gear nob as well, Additionally I have some Mark3 Club-Car bumpers almost totally stripped of paint for anyone wanting to do modifications.

The brakes have recently been re-done with new calipers on the front, and new cylinders and shoes on the rear.

Bad Points:

The car is an MOT failure. The main points are:

Nearside McPherson strut has excessive movement in the upper support.

Rear Wheel bearings need replacing (offside fail, nearside advisory)

Both nearside tires need replacing, offside front advisory

I did rear-end an Audi, causing a small bend in the front, gives the car a bit of a wonky smile but it's structurally sound. The headlights need re-aiming for the MOT.

Fog Lamp switch, bulb gone.

Other advisories for minor exhaust blow, rear shocks have misting of oil and handbrake travel high.

At the moment scrap isn't too bad, and the car is probably worth £150, but I'd much rather see it go to a good home. The engine is excellent and would be ideal for any renovation projects, the bodywork is in good condition and it has relatively good alloys.

Trouble is I'm no mechanic, wouldn't have the first clue where to start fitting the parts; hence why selling it to someone who could repair it.

Additionally the car can come with a cd player, twin 6x9s in the rear, twin 6.5" in the front and twin 10" subs and 400w amp if the price is right, if not these will be sold seperately
