With cutting springs, do any of you declare this to your insurance company, stating you have "lowered springs"?

Also, after you have cut them with the grinder any advice on holding them down? I know alot of people have said it's not a problem but would cable ties be suffice?

i have used jubilee clips on mine just for peice of mind, but i now people who have used heavy duty cable ties but its not too much of a problem because like someone has aleady said ynless you jumpng our car they arnt going to 'dislocate' from the seats,

my insurance company do know yes but i oly sad mild drop, or i would havto pay a stupidamount to say its lowered 60mm +

hope this helps

Ahh nice one, cheers.

I think I might have to give it ago, dig out a circular saw and get cutting! ha.

I wonder what my insurance company is like with it though, most likely have to change. Kwikfit are rubbish for mods imo.

gets springs or don't do it at all.

cutting springs OR lowered sus.

Well i know what your insurance would say about lowered springs... just out of interest how much did your premium go up for declaring lopping a couple of coils off your standard sus?

heres another one, say you have a shock and spring kit already on ie uprated shocks and lowering springs, as the lowering springs will be a different spring rate and the shocks harder in theory could you not safely chop (without going mad) the uprated springs and it should handle as good as?

just my tp

i guess if your not choppin alot off then i guess it would be ok? just if the MOT man see's the springs then its a fail technically, but i wouldnt see a problem as the shock is uprated then it should still be able to handle a slightly shorter spring.

'you dont know till you tried it' :)

i'm running chopped springs on my mk3 polo, little bouncy but not to bad considering the front springs are pretty much in half and the rears have 2 coils out :) this is just as a temp. measure until i get my coilovers...i'm not going to run 13x8's with standard springs!lol

they're only dangerous if your jumping the car....which idiot would do that anyway?
