this is my old car, and the rear shoes and cylinders have all been changed it has braided lines already on it, may just need rebled after all the work done

My pedal has also got alot of travel and feels like its going to go through the floor!

bigger master cylinder, and a good bleed should sort it. if not, pads and disks an re-bleed.

i bleed my brakes every few months, why should you put up with more travel just coz the pads have worn in a bit?

i like my pedal to be solid, regardless of wear on brakes.

much better feel than a sloppy pedal.

but as your brakes wear, its compensated by more fluid being used....less in the reservoir, even then its a tiiiiiny amount extra being used

so if you keep your reservoir topped up i cant see it affecting owt

been given a bigger master cylinder by a mate and il bleed the brakes when i get some free time

Get the drums off and check shoe wear; renew if necessary. Self adjusting "wedges" are anything but self adjusting so before replacing the drums tap the wedges down until you can just get the drums back on. Now adjust hand brake cable( adjuster under handbrake) until you've only got two or three clicks. This is dead easy, pull the handbrake up hard,grip the inner cable tightly with a pair of long nosed pliers and release the hand brake. The adjuster nut can then be spun down easily. Worn pads don't increase pedal travel, but a jammed caliper might, so check calipers are free. While you've been doing all this look for leaks. If no leaks but still a bit spongey, bleed system. Remember mk3 brakes are shit even when working well and a couple of upgrades such as braided hoses and the 22mm master will help, but only when everything else is ok
