Weitec Ultra GT 60/60 kit with lowering caps on the front:

Also have a new d/s wing on there now, new rear bumper and colour coded boot plinth.

New wiring in places and sorted the other wires as they were abit messy in the engine bay.

Then the engine will be taken out so i can clean the bay, paint the engine/gearbox and polish the inlet like my bros engine bay:

Oh and you can blame the Polos for the slow progress!

you should do her up like these. minus the vr6 split on the one at inters tho:)

Decided on a new set of wheels. My bro bought them a few years ago but thought they looked to small under his G60 arches so I'm having them. They were in OK condition paint wise but some of the lips were crap. Just a few pics from my refurb.

Bit of a big update: The wording might seem odd as I'm copying a few posts from another site! and my brother is doing it, i don't talk about myself as a 3rd person haha

pics of my progress so far.

lost a bit of the front end. The drivers wing i being replaced as it had some rust on the edges.

i do love how a mk2 front end comes apart to give good access :-)

closer pic of drivers side chassis leg - 20years of grime... last time its ever this diry.

after a few hours and far too many distractions i called it a day as it was too dark.

doesnt look like a massive amount has been done but I've been cleaning and preping parts to paint and ones to polish as i remove things so everything is nicely boxed up with its nuts/bolts/washers. Finished the day by untangling the wiring loom which was a pretty nasty job.

Plans tomorrow are

1) driveshafts off

2) gear linkage off

3) exhaust manifold off

4) engine out

got to spend a couple of hours on it today whilst dodging the rain.

wasnt able to get hold of my engine hoist so the engine is still in but only sat on engine mounts. nothing else is attached .

Decided to whip the head off so i can get it cleaned, fit new valve stem seals, skim it an get it painted.

started giving the firewall an bit of a clean and began removing the wiring loom.

all the wiring loom will be stripped out and dumped in boiling water to help make it supple again ready to be retouted through the rain tray and chassis legs where possible.

Next time the engine bay will definately be empty!

cracked on a bit today and have the engine + box out and split.. I am going to put a new clutch in and have the flywheel lightened so thats being taken care off.

In the meantime whilst the head is also due to be sent off to have new valve stems, valves an a skim i continued half an half, colour is gloss black.

last job of the day before it got too dark was try and find some more paint on the inner wing + strut.

looking better after a clean- i have removed 99% of the seam sealer to reveal more paint.

going to have to be patient now an wait for the head an couple of parts but that gives me time to finish cleaning the bay an re-wiring.

il try an get some proper daylight pics next time.

Did a bit more today and have managed to upload a few of the pics from yesterday when the engine came out.

Basically everything is going to be black bar a couple of bits like the inlet which will be silver. Replacing nackered bolts, wireing loom and other bits will be sorted.

It will still be a standard 1.8 16v engine. Its getting painted black as most of my bro's engine is silver.

My new d/s wing and rear bumper will be fitted, I have sold the black leather interior and gone back to the 'Rainbow' interior.

Hopefully this will be finished around January time.

Few more updates:

not a lot of updates. progress has been halted for a little while but will restart this weekend.

in meantime a couple of pics of the trial fit of the engine harness. i split it all out into individual wires an started routing wires a bit more discreetly.

the harness for the wiper motors, heated washer jets, Ecu, coil, isv and few other bits have been routed through.

Engine harness will run across top of bay down the back of firewall through chassis leg and out in the middle inline with gearbox across gearbox and to engine. lighting harnesses will run all way through chassis leg to front of the engine bay.

few more updates....

things are starting to get put back together now. since taking the pic i have added all the water pipes as well.

just need to get hold of a new PAS bracket and get a new bolt for the PAS pump.

block has been decked/skimmed and pistons cleaned up an back in.

i painted the gearbox fitted new seals, nice push rod and cleaned all the insides up.

fitted a new Luk clutch kit

The cambelt/pulleys and box are now all fitted and ready for the head to go back on. then the engine is ready to go back in.

still hoping to have it done in the next couple of weekends

made a fair bit of progress today :)

nearly finshed the wiring.. this is the lighting loom, main engine harness all going through the chassis leg

subframe, driveshafts and steering rack all painted and refitted

engine and gearbox are back in

Put the slam panel and front end togther so i can start mocking up the engine wiring loom as it needs to be lengthened and hidden.

Starting to look more and more like normal

i may get a chance to get the head on tomorrow but i will be doing some work on my own golf getting ready for Ultimate Dubs to..

yo,

had a day off today and a rather large hangover but managed to get my act together and do a few hours work on mikes car.

reinstalled all the air intake and fuel lines

Head is back on - just need to torque the bolts up. exhaust/inlet manifold on and i began putting all the engine accessories back on.

Being a horder i have 2 spare 16v wiring looms so this one certainly came in handy allowing me to extend the existing loom and maintain genuine VW plugs and preserve the correct wiring colours.

plan is the wiring will run under the crossmember loop up under the front engine mount and wrap around the side of the block. I'm going to wrap all the wiring in black cable tidy to so it will blend in very well.

once the head is torqued up all that i need to do is:

1) set the timing, fit the cambelt

2) rewire the alarm

3) wrap the wiring

4) fit rocker cover and other half of inlet

5) paint the fuel lines

6) HT leads - which will be hidden under the inlet manifolf

7) build a extended pipe to the ISV so it can be put under inlet manifold to hide it

8 ) fit battery

Then i think the engine is done.

Another jobs is to fit a new steering column and sort out the ignition wiring after some ****wit tried to steel a car with no ****Ing engine it

Very nice, you should get a rado power steering bottle whilst you're on with it all.

Also, since I'm shopping for you, braided fuel lines are easy to find these days and will make all the difference.

I've been stripping my white mk2 Digipants 8v today and this further more inspires me.

^Rich are you saying a rado power steering bottle is a better way to go? The bracket that holds my power steering reservoir is well rotten. Would a rado one be a better option maybe eliminate the rotten bracket?

The rado one fits in that gap inbetween your washer bottle and your battery, I'd post a pic but I can't be arsed.

You need the lines for it too but it's all easy to fit.

The DOHC 16v will be painted Oak green but the essentially this is the only bit of shiny silver in the bay.

with the weather being so good i decided to roll the car out the garage so it can see sunlight for the first time since just before xmas and because it needed a serious clean as it was under a inch of dust and crap!! No pics before but imagine if id parked it next to a volcano - there was that much dust!

started off with the car with no wings/bonnet/lights etc

within a few min i had one wing back on

Bonnet isnt shut in this pick so will sit lower. the main thing is i need to straighten the panel gaps for the passenger wing so it matches the drivers side and i need to push the drivers side wing in just a tad to make the swage line perfect. TBH I'm going a bit OTT but i want it to look straighter than factory.

Engine now has fluids in it and all that i need is a charged battery, a cambelt temsioner and a PAS bracket + some PAS fluid and we can try to Fire her up!!!

I know I'm getting close now, MOT is booked for 2 weeks time on monday and then we have a week until the national meet.....
